Am I interpreting this 5th level class ability correctly?
I could cast a cantrip (or any level of damage spell) via a wand (as my focus) and gain an additional 1d8 damage. Then, as a bonus action, I could trigger my Eldritch Cannon (which in this case is my wand) to shoot with one of the effects on the Eldritch Cannon table?
Yes. Keep in mind the d8 only applies to your Artificer spells and only to one damage roll. If you cast a spell like Scorching Ray that d8 only applies to one ray. On the other hand if you cast Fireball every target is taking the extra damage. Also you decide what type of Eldritch Cannon you're going to use when you create it, so you're always using the same option on the table until you create a new one.

Thank you.
Also, while you eldritch cannon can be hand-held, it is not your wand.
