So, I’m thinking about a high elf armorer who uses the infiltrator model a lot, i was wondering that if one used mithral armor and the dampening field format he armor model, would that give advantage in stealth. I guess the question is if you can make magic armor your arcane armor. To me, it makes sense, but i was wondering about a general consensus. And also, though mithral armor is hard to come by, artificers are basically made for making magic items so yeah.
There is nothing in the Arcane Armor or Armor Model rules that would prevent using magic armor. If you couldn't use magic armor you wouldn't be able to add infusions to your own armor since that'd make it magical.
Note that artificer infusions do not work on already-magic armor, which would disable some Armorer features. Many DMs don't consider mythril or adamanatine armor to be 'magical' per se no matter what the game rules say, but many do. Ensure you know which way your DM leans before setting your heart on mythril platemail.
It's obvious (IMO of course) that Armorer should be able to use infusion on a magic armor, but it's not literally written in the rules, even the level 9 feature have a lot of discussion on how to understand the RAW and RAI.
It is written in the rules that you can't use infusions on magic items. The whole armorer buissness doesn't seem to be an exception. That said me and my DM have changed that rule so I can infuse magic items but similar bonuses don't stack (can't get a +2 from infusing a +1 weapon). That was mainly because I use a crossbow with the repeating shot infusion and he still wanted me to be able to use magic items he gave me.
