For my next campaign, I'm playing a Tiefling Barbarian and decided to take Ancestral Guardian (we're starting at level 5). Considering the lore behind Tieflings and demonic ancestry, would you think that I could have some fun and talk to my DM about really tapping into the demonic lineage route of Tieflings to make the most of this combo?
Basically, what sort of neat stuff could I do with a Tiefling Ancestral Guardian?
First of all just from a fluff stand point, when you enter your rage a screaming horde of spectral demons harass and tease your target. Leering visages and awful murmurings, ovet threats from the spirits and maybe they say things about them they shouldn't know, things that would give that disadvantage to your target. I picture a swarm like from Fantasia (last part) screaming and howling and cavorting around them.
Depending on the DM ask them about demoralizing enemies (something from older dnd), such that if they have been the target of your ancestral guardians and you then drop them into magical darkness they might just lose their shit and run off into the wilderness only to be found a week later still ranting and raving about the monster that summoned demons with his eyes. Those eyes they pierced through my soul and left me empty, I see them every night before I fall asleep the cat like eyes right before everything went dark.
Danger sense may be a semi literal devil on your shoulder giving you a small warning that something is about to happen giving you that little edge you need to dodge.
Hellish Rebuke is just a super handy thing to have to punish an enemy that had THE GALL to attack you, only to get sharply rebuked. Thaumaturgy, maybe you can convince the DM to sometimes allow you to use it to enhance your demonic attributes for intimidation checks. Whispers, suddenly making your voice incredibly loud (Barbarian shout?), causing your eyes to glow with an inner hellish light. Amp your devilish characteristics up to a ten when it benefits your purposes.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."

Oh wow, this is all awesome stuff. I am marking out as I read all this.
Yeah, this is gonna go great. Truth be told, I was planning on having Thaumaturgy used as an excuse to be super dramatic, this character is a sorta pro wrestler. Kinda. I was gonna have him pull off Hellish Retribution a la Hulk Hogan pointing at an opponent for having the GALL to strike the Hulkster.
Thanks, you've helped turn a kinda nifty character with some jokey abilities into a complete terror. Great job!
DUDE you come into the fight and SUDDENLY the lights go out... A hush settles over everyone there.
When the lights come back up the first thing they see are your eyes GLOWING WITH HELLFIRE. Suddenly they speak and it is impossibly loud startling everyone "YOU THINK YOU CAN BEST ME! YOU WILL DIE!!!" BUWAHAHAHahahahahahah.
Then afterwards in the tavern you tell people about them peeing their pants.

I had planned on making a failed samurai sort where his shogunette ancestors would mock him during his rage. But honestly that's WAY cooler. That's just about the most metal character concept I've ever heard.
Man that's pretty damn cool. I am playing Barbarian for the first time soon and I am planning to go with Ancestral Guardian. But I think mine is going to be a lot less cool. As he is a Halfing Barbarian who rages by getting wine drunk. With his whole family being brewers I just picture it as the enemies just getting harassed by a load of drunk halfings. I am just looking forward to getting to say "Sic'em Gran gran. in character.

Bonus points that this character speaks entirely in the third person.
"YOU ARE BEARING WITNESS TO THE FITNESS THAT IS KILLEUS KO'PLANN. ALL SHALL BURN IN HIS GLORIOUS SIGHT!"

Also, if you know Hellish Rebuke as your Infernal Heritage feature, one of the demons can spew flames at the enemies
Very cool. I did the same with a dragonborn
