I grabbed it at level 4 and never looked back, and my DM is quite happy for us to switch feats out when we level up. It adds an extra level of security, and even helps the team finish things off like dragons, that might decide to fly away if low.

Well, if we're counting a shield as armor (you still get unarmored defense bonus if you're wearing a shield, and shields are in fact under the "armor" category in 5e) you might still get the +1 if your DM is lenient enough.

Shields are not armor. They aren't under armor in the PHB they are under Armor AND Shields. There is Light, Medium, and Heavy Armor.
Speaking of Goliath Barbarian, how does Stone Endurance work, does the damage it reduce apply before or after you half the damage when you are raging?
It applies after the damage has been halved. So if you take 30 slashing damage while raging, you would use stone endurance on the remaining 15.
Thank you so much. Ive been looking so long for this answer. Does the same apply when using the fighter maneuver parry?
The wording is similar so I'd say yes. You reduce the damage you take so to get to that point the resistance has already kicked in and halved the initial damage.
This is why, on my next ASI, my barb will grab Sentinel. It should lock down the baddies and keep them away from our wizard and allow our fighter/rogue archer to get his sneak attack bonus.
My current main campaign character is a Dwarf Barbarian. I started lower level with shield and battleaxe but since I got Bear Totem I have not used the shield since and have almost constantly be reckless attacking. Currently about halfway through level 5 and have not gone down once since level 3. Also, he has not worn armor for most of the campaign and was 'stuck' on 14 AC (+1 dex, +3 con) until he recently picked up a breastplate. His stats certainly are not min max but he holds his own between a heavily armored paladin and fighter, despite his non armored reckless attacking meaning he actually often is target number one for intelligent enemies.
One thing I did was use level 4 to actually take Tavern Brawler Strike. This Barbarian, when not using his two hander, is actually pretty often fighting with Hand Axes in both hands or one hand free depending on the situation, especially against multiple enemies. The flexibility of switching to a ranged attack as well as being able to grapple after an unarmed strike is actually pretty cool to play around with and gives a ton of other 'tanking' options than just standing in the way or killing things quickly.
The funniest moment was when he managed to grapple an enemy leader and stopped the fight by dangling him over a deep edge and threatening his followers he would drop him if they didn't surrender. They didn't, and he is a Dwarf of his word.
I know it is not as 'strong' as other options mechanically, but it is so much fun to play around with and be creative with use of improvised weapons (like his grappling hook!) and the ability to kick ass unarmed too. Nothing beats chugging a potion mid fight while raging and my DM allowing me to instead of breaking it on my own head to intimidate, to use it as an improvised bonus action attack to try and break it over the Big Baddy's head instead as I tried to get him to focus me.

This is not true, the damage reduction comes first, then damage resistance, then damage vulnerability. This is in the PHB CH9 under damage and healing, damage resistance and vulnerability.
i play 5e D&D i have a level 9 barbarian human took path of the wild soul in other words fay born barbarian. my ac is 13 i'm a grate weapon fighter my best weapon is the giant killer sword from storm kings thunder which i'm playing. i'm one of the the meat shields for my party but if i'm not rageing all the time a giant can easly down me in one to two hits. is there a way i can make her better so she can take a hit before i rage. cause most times i get hit and nearly downed before i can even go in to my rage which means i'm less good at what i am sposta do. is there any thing i can buy in waterdeep or the other big town in the game that can help raise her ac?
With 13 AC you might have something like 10 Dexterity and 16 Constitution. I that case, you can still buy a scale mail, breastplate, or even half plate to get a nice boost to your AC while still being able to rage properly. If your consitution is lower than that, they'll give even more of a benefit since your unarmored defense isn't doing you much favors.
Other possible solutions which are more long-term (since you won't get a new feat until level 12) might be the Alert feat to more reliably be able to act (rage) before the opponents get their turn. If your Dexterity is at 16 then the Medium Armor Master feat is a great choice to get more AC, or Tough to get more hitpoints (often worth twice as much in your rage).
So according to That first link Sentinel is a great idea for a tank.
Makes me happy. Makes my Rouge happy...makes the Fighter happy....makes the Paladin happy.
