Later this year, we will release a product (not yet announced) that offers a way for a player to customize their character’s origin, including the option to change the ability score increases that come from being an elf, a dwarf, or one of D&D's many other playable folk. This option emphasizes that each person in the game is an individual with capabilities all their own.
Mechanically, you'd be looking for races with a Str bonus, preferably Str and Con. Yes you can build a Dex-based Barbarian, but a couple of the Barbarian's core features are based on using Str for attacks. But if you roll good enough stats, any race *can* work. You're only limited by your creativity.

Yeah. In a few months, Satyr or Yuan-Ti Pureblood will be the best races for any class most often. There are a few other races that will benefit a ton from this. Hill Dwarves for people aiming for the most hit points in Barbarians, Elves for people who don't like charmed or unconscious barbarians, gnomes if you're okay with being small and want to reject magic, Half-Elves for anyone who wants to be amazing, etc.
Currently, the top barbarian races are the following, in no particular order, as they all depend on what kind of character you want to play:
Half-Orc
Goliath
Minotaur
Variant Human
Lizardfolk (for the bonus action heal/bite once)
Variant Humans

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
One of my favorite characters is a female halfling barbarian. There's a lot of fun to be had when you can move through the space of any creature that is a size larger than yours. Think Molly Weasley from Harry Potter but far more angry and militant.

What is the best race for a barbarian?
Gunnar Snorri Svanþórsson
I prefer Half-Orc or Goliath. Dwarf & Variant Human have a lot going for them too.
Minotaur class is always a WIN-WIN.
My Ready-to-rock&roll chars:
Dertinus Tristany // Amilcar Barca // Vicenç Sacrarius // Oriol Deulofeu // Grovtuk
Prediction: In a few months time, answers here will be quite different due to the build-your-own ability score distribution.
I hope this content could appear ASAP.
