Pondering the choices for players to play either sword and board, two-weapon fighting or two handed weapons, I considered how two handed weapons provide a small advantage over two weapon fighting. And thinking further on this I thought why would anyone not want to use two handed weapons, and then I compared that with the benefit of shield and you typically only get +2 damage when using two handed weapons. Well, all these scenarios were floating around in my head when I thought about Bards who don't start off with proficiency with shields, so sword and board doesn't apply to them. But they are only proficient with a few weapons including Rapier and Longsword. Well, Longsword is a versatile weapon, so it is a two-hander "in a pinch." So I figured I should develop the Bard's Singing Sword of Glory and Valor, which would be a magic longsword that has an extra bonus when used as a two handed weapon. The extra bonus might be limited to N times per day or something, but I'm still figuring it out.
Does anyone have an epic sword description they would like to share to help me flesh out the details of the Epic Bardic Sword?

This is only a completely different direction, but I gave the Bard in my campaign a weapon called the "Rapier of Wit", which allows the Bard who wields it to cast Vicious Mockery as a bonus action after attacking with the rapier, but only against the same creature they initially attacked. This was basically my way to get the bard to actually cast Vicious Mockery... it's a spell she really likes, but it's rarely worth dedicating a full action to casting it.
It's probably a little unbalanced if given to someone who has multi-attack, but for most bards it's a solid weapon that makes both melee combat and Vicious Mockery much more of a viable option in combat.
