So, as the title suggests, i'm planning on role-playing my bard in the next upcoming campaign, but i'm not really sure what sub class would fit her the best. Considering she's a one shot character only, i decided to forgo a deep backstoy and settled for a relatively simple "child of a tavern owner who loved to listen to the stories of the visiting patrons and later set out to create some stories for their own to tell". Following that line of thought, her main goal would be to find as many interesting stories as possible, which she then can tell to others later.
What do you think would be the subclass that thematically would fit that kind of character the best?
Edit: Oh, and she's a tiefling going by the name of Melody. Just to give you a bit more info about the character.
If you want to RP a character who fits the stereotype of a Tiefling, there's always the College of Whispers. Psychic damage, fear, wearing people's shadows.
If you prefer a more happy-go-lucky character, the Glamour Bard and the Valor Bard could easily fit.
If you like getting up close and painful with your foes, pick College of Swords.
Melody is an appropriate name for a tiefling bard, I must say...tieflings often take names that encompass what they're all about.
Having said that, your description is perfect for the College of Glamour...your "Enthralling Performance" could be the ability to captivate an audience with your storytelling.
Personally, it's my favorite sort of bard...music is their default style, but I've always enjoyed a bard who uses they're magic by shouting or uttering little bits of inspiring words from legends or folk tales...very similar to the Chanters from "Pillars of Eternity".
I agree with College of Glamour if it is about the act of the storytelling! Could be fun to do the whole super happy, inspiring, captivating bard. Make sure you take a proficiency in performance! College of Lore could be cool for the 'gathering' stories idea, if she is more of a listener. History-based could be fun there. Or if you want to throw everyone for a loop, do College of Whispers and do the whole 'front' of 'just gathering stories,' but be more of a secret-gatherer to use against people. Though, that might be a little more fleshed out that you were thinking!!!
It really depends on what her personality is and how you want to play. Honestly, for a one shot, I would pick the College you would rather play and enjoy the perks of more, and then flavor her personality around it. That's typically what I do! I find that those things just fall right into place.

I love the name so much, it makes me happy.
