Is it ever possible for a bard to inspire themselves? For instance, I have a bard, college of Valor level 6. I would like to use combat inspiration to buff my own attacks. I hate to drop a Critical Role reference but Sam's character Scanlan was able to inspire himself at higher levels on that campaign. Any advice would be appreciated!
You can inspire others through stirring words or music. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature other than yourself within 60 feet of you who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d6.
That may have been a house-rule of Matt's (and remember Campaign 1 was originally a Pathfinder game that was converted) but it's not RAW.
I do allow my player's to cast Guidance on themselves, though.
The College of Lore has a feature, Peerless Skill, that lets them add their bardic inspiration dice to skill checks they make. Since they can also get Expertise and the inspiration die can go up to d12, this means the Lore Bard is pretty ******* amazeballs at skill checks.
"You can use a bonus action on your turn to choose another creature within 60 ft who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d6. Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add it to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. Can wait until after it rolls the d20, but before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once it is rolled it is lost. A creature can only have one die at a time. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (min 1). You regain all charges on a long rest. The bonus increases to a d8 at 5th level, d10 at 10th level, d12 at 15th level".
The original text of the player's handbook does not say that it is not possible explicitly, that interpretation was added by DnD beyond. I find it unpleasant that they changed the original text.
So you can quote the original text and debate with your GM

Newer printings of the PHB have the same wording as D&D Beyond, although I don’t see this change mentioned in the errata.

It's not mentioned in the errata because they didn't actually change the rule, only the wording. This may have been because some players have a less than capable grasp of English grammar. Even in the earlier version that Ulrich quoted, it states:
"You can use a bonus action on your turn to choose another creature within 60 ft who can hear you."
Since this is the start of the passage, that means the only grammatical antecedents for another creature are the words you and your. Therefore another creature can only mean a creature other than you.
Starting at 14th level, when you make an ability check, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration. Roll a Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to your ability check. You can choose to do so after you roll the die for the ability check, but before the GM tells you whether you succeed or fail.
14th level Lore Bard feature.
Rock on fellow Lore Bards we few the proud the OG Lore Bard!

I already mentioned this in Post #4.
So you're necroing an old thread just to repeat something already mentioned, without adding anything new? Why?
Hello everyone ! Once i've stomped, at reddit, on a post, where they said, that Bard can use an Inspiration die to load his melee attack with psichic damage, is it false?
*sorry for misstakes, i'm not a native english speaker*

No. The Bard subclass College of Whispers has a feature that lets the bard spend a bardic inspiration when they hit a creature with a weapon attack to deal an additional 2d6 psychic damage.

First paragraph under Bardic Inspiration:

Cool, thank you for the clarification.

Wow, that explains it! Thank you!

Yes, the wording on D&D Beyond is the correct, up to date version.
DND Beyond didn't "change the wording" in anyway. The license probably prohibits that, and editing the books they're selling isn't something they do.

I relize this is over 2 years old but for others searching or playing the OG Lore Bard
