I'm creating a campaign and was wondering what sort of sub-class of cleric or other class might be most likely to be able to understand or get a read on what the local gods might be like in a new location.
I'm looking to create a displaced character where it makes sense that they talk to the gods and, over time, build a relationship with several. Would knowledge domain be a good choice? Would something else?
Knowledge domain is the obvious choice for reasons I'm sure you can see.
It might be interesting to see if the character could have a divine domain that none of the gods in this place grant. That way you can have a really exotic character who stands out from the clerics of the area. Which might peak curiosity, hostility or something else entirely.
