I am going to be playing a tempest domain cleric/Storm soul sorcerer and i want his alignment to be NG/CG. The problem im having is finding a suitable god for his alignment as it seems that the tempest domain gods are of am evil alignment.
Anybody have any suggestions?
EDIT: My character will be a half elf. The setting is homebrew and my understanding is that the any pantheon is acceptable.
There are a number of deities listed in the Players Handbook, and they include alignments and suggested domains. Kord is CG. Thor is also CG, if you are ok using the Norse pantheon. My DM home-brewed a pantheon for our game and gave me Maro, an androgynous deity that covered a number of domains, including War and Tempest. They are True Neutral.
Zeus. Thor. Indra.Feng Lung. Yopaat. Oya. Those are all real world gods that use thunder, and are pretty cool with humanity.
That said, its not really going to help you if we don't know what setting you're in, what pantheons are available, and if you're even human or not - I wouldn't recommend Aerdrie Faenya, the elven goddess of weather, air and winged elves, to a dwarf, for instance, though I imagine a half-elf would work well. Akadi, the Queen of Air, is a goddess of the Faerunian pantheon, not exactly someone I would recommend if you're playing in Eberron or Greyhawk.
Though priests/priestesses of Talos and Umberlee tend to be CE, they don't have to be in this edition. You might be someone who worships them to intercede on the behalf of those less fortunate. Even nice sailors need to placate Umberlee.
As was mentioned earlier there are many options. The PHB entry for the Tempest Domain mentioned only Evil gods fro the FR pantheon. As others have mentioned, there are non-human deities in both the elf and giant pantheons as options.
For mainstream FR gods, I thinik this gives a comprehensive list (taken from. 21 in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide).
- Akadi (goddess of air: AL N)
- Auril (goddes of wnter; AL: NE)
- Istishia (goddess of water; AL: N)
- Talos (god of storms; AL CE)
- Umberlee (goddess of the sea; AL: CE)
So those are options for stormy-type characters to consider (in addition to nonhuman deities). I know very little about those deities, aside from Talos and Umberlee. Do the less-evil storm/wind/water gods try to counter out Talos and Umberlee?
Akadi and Ishishia sound like the best option for a non-evil Tempest Cleric.
BTW - I am actually playing a Storm Sorcerer (8th lvl) in Adventure League. The PC technically has Mystra for her patron, but I've very tempted to several levels as a Tempest Cleric. And I do not know which deity is the best for, since my character is staunchly Neutral Good.
There is also Valkur, a Chaotic Good deity of Tempest and War that is found in the Forgotten Realms setting. He is worshiped by sailors and is against Umberlee. But he is friendly to the Moon Goddess Selune.
My tempest cleric worships odin. It's really fun for me since I've always been a big nerd for Norse mythology so it's easy to throw her a little bit of her faith into everything she does. My DM is a big Norse nerd too so she'll drop little things in for her to geek out over.
I had a guy in a campaign I was in worship a long forgotten storm god- he was a hermit who found the statue of an old god, face long since faded away with time, and he came to be the sole worshipper of it
My current tempest cleric doesn't worship a single diety, they worship all of them. Lets face it most tempest domain dieties have awesome titles that look fun to invoke "The ***** Queen demands your suffering as payment for your disrespect" Essentially she is religious but not devoted to a single god, but the domain itself, invoking/channeling all the tempest dieties as needed.
Expanding on the "suggested domains" concept, I've taken the idea of the Tempest being represented by lightning bringing flashes of light during a storm. Therefore, gods that are associated with light (or the light domain) are fair game.
If you're looking at the Forgotten Realms deities, Aerdrie Faenya(goddess of the sky) and Deep Sashelas(god of the sea) from the Elven pantheon seem like strong choices. But if your DM hasn't created an official pantheon for the world you'll be playing in and is giving you completely free reign to choose, any deity whose divine authority is the sky or the sea would be appropriate. The Players Handbook has several pantheons in Appendix B, some from various official D&D settings, some from human history. Some of them specifically list Tempest as one of their suggested domains, but if they don't list Tempest but they do list something like Nature or even War, they might work too. Having a Storm Sorcerer bloodline gives you a reason to be Tempest domain even if your deity of choice is only tangentially connected. You can justify a LOT of character class choices with a creative backstory :)

Kord is CG, I think.
DICE FALL, EVERYONE ROCKS!

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
Really late to the the party. Aerdrie Faenya is a tempest domain cleric and her alignment is chaotic good (I believe).
I have a tempest cleric that is worshipping the forgotten realms giant god Stronmaus.
I have one that I use Thor with, that way when I use Spiritual Weapon I create floating Mjolnir
I am currently playing a cleric of Akadi/Teylas, a Neutral Air Primordial.
Real Life Healbot
I'm assuming you're playing Forgotten Realms.

I hope that helps,,

I’m an elf in a Greyhawk campaign and my DM suggested Deep Sashelas. Water, thunder and lightning. I’m CG.

Just go 'cleric of a philosophy' and worship storms directly.
