I'm thinking of trying to recreate Welf Crozzo from an anime I like. Was thinking of using a mark of making human and a forge domain cleric, but is the cleric mage like enough who is known for being kind of a fire sword mage in the anime. Also will forge domain and mark of making be able to really put off the master weaponsmith vibes I'm trying to convey.
Just looking for thoughts and suggestions really on a future character build :)
I think so, Clerics still have a variety of spells at their beck and call, and being able to give a normal item a magical boost for a day is pretty handy. The bonus domain spells have some good fire damaging types, Heat Metal being a good example to still give a bit o the wizardy flair to him. The Artisan's Blessing is just handy when some specific simple item is needed and you don't currently have it. An hour later and now you turned all that junk metal (or just gold) into the item of choice, perhaps a length of chain to hold something in place. Also going to go back to the domain spells it grants, they are pretty sweet in my mind (obviously depending on situation) and lends itself well to a relatively tank like cleric that can get up ront and unleash some fiery destruction on enemies.
THE POWER OF HEAT COMPELS YOU!

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
I am not familiar with the character, but if you want that firesword (without using a spell) you will need to snag a martial weapon proficiency from somewhere for swords - alternatively take your first level as fighter (and there you go with another +1ac thankyou fighting style) then go forge and your in action.
I cant speak to mark of making, havent read it, an option but not a particularly good one is magic initiate and greenflame blade.
Good luck with the character and have fun, please let us know how it feels to play
Welf from Danmachi is definitely a smith to his core. Most characters in the show serve or worship a god, so being a cleric isn't too off theme. Forge domain clerics can imbue a weapon or armor temporarily with magic and can also make equipment from raw materials--just like a smith. Clerics can also learn the Mending cantrip which works well thematically with your character, too. As mentioned before, you can snag the magic initiate feat at first level (if you go variant human) to get that flaming sword flavor. Clerics don't start with martial weapon proficiency, but it is something you can learn during down time, with a feat, or multi classing (ideally into fighter) for 1 level.
Also, don't forget that your level 6 ability adds fire damage to your strikes once per turn (no cantrip required). You won't be able to make permanently magical swords from the domain abilities alone, but as a DM, I'd allow you to craft a magic weapon after some effort (ex, going on a side quest to retrieve the rare ore needed and/or an ancient scroll with the "recipe" per say to construct such a sword). Overall, taking most if not all of your levels in cleric is probably the best way to get the theme you're looking for. Best of luck!
