I have a clear vision of my character, but unfortunately I simply can't find a proper deity for my priest to patronise his philosophy and beliefs. Could you please help me with all that stuff?
Whats the idea?
My character is pretty simple. Basically it's a "badass cleric" who believes in "inflicting good". Like "be good or die", but his understanding of goodnesses is quite ancient and even savage maybe. Partly he was inspired by an idea to create a male Melisandra from GoT. Its that type of cleric who believes in his own way of doing good.
So what's crucial for him? (here s some core stuff)
- "People have forgotten how to appreciate good, because it has become an everyday thing for them, something ordinary. It is necessary to show them the absence of good, so that they again learn to cherish and appreciate it. Like fire, it is useless while everyone is warm, but on a dark snowy night in the forest - it is valued as life itself."
- There is a purpose for everything in the world, even for "bad things or creatures" they show us the difference between light and darkness. and so on
- Like he easily could take an ear (or some body part) from the particularly cruel enemy and say: "Im takin it for you to understand what it means to take something from somebody, life for instance. Im not taking you life for now im only taking this. When ill see that you understood the cruelty of the loss and that you value lives of others ill give it back to you."
I'm not aware of any deities of "primal good". God of things considered good, yes. Then again, imposing the morality of something on someone, I view as inherently "not good". The crusades are a fine example of that.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Amaunator. I’ve considered him, but he s kinda “representative of lawfulness” so “no chaotic stuff for you , kids”)) and as far as I know he termed out to be Lathander anyways
lathander though 🤔 i don’t know. Could he patronize an “lawful evil/chaotic good” creature?
What about twisted Ilmater cultist? Is it possible?
Ilmater believes in taking suffering onto himself for others. Not really what you're looking for.
Honestly, Bane might be just the ticket. He's all about imposing his will on people. Sure, he's evil, but I could see how someone perhaps "falls" to Bane; these people need to be saved from themselves and their own sins. For the greater good, of course.

Amauntor and Lathander have fissioned into two separate deities now.
As far as deities that fit the OP's requirements, I'd recommend Helm in the Forgotten Realms or Pholtus or St Cuthbert in Greyhawk.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
This concept has a vast array of answers depending on the setting. In Eberron, I'd say just to go Silver Flame and play up the zealot angle. But any faith could fit such a cleric there. In the Realms, Tyr or Bane sound like the answer. Mainly since the "good" this cleric is going for sounds like their own idea of "order." I think it's important to talk with the DM of whatever campaign you are dropping this character into, as they might have a god that will fit better.
This concept feels more like a vengeance paladin to me. Not that it can’t be a cleric, just that seems like a better fit. But if you’re going cleric, maybe work with your DM to homebrew a god for it. Mechanically, the domain is what matters and the god is just fluff. Could be there are only a few left who believe in this god, so it’s not well known and not written anywhere.
It sounds like you're talking about a god of war... Torm, (LG) god of courage and self-sacrifice.Tempus, (N) god of war. Tyr, (LG) god of justice, Hoar, (LN) god of revenge and retribution. Basic goodness through force.
Maybe even Helm, (LN) god of protection... I'm thinking the Light side more then Life.

If I was picking a god for Melisandre though, I'd probably look first at https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Kossuth
Then maybe: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Amaunator
This might be a final choice if the first two didn't cut it: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Lathander

Mostly I agree, but that’s the point.
Kossuth is a bit “flat”, don’t you think?

As far as domains go, the Order domain fits quite well.
