Hey, all. Brand new, so apologies if this is a repeat or dumb question:
How are you describing your spellcasting whilst playing your druid? I noticed some need ingredients, etc. Does the act of compiling those ingredients need to be described during the game? Is the Druidic Focus or totem taking the place of all that? Just struggling as I'm getting ready for a new campaign.
A component pouch or druidic focus be used instead of material components that don't have a cost and aren't consumed by the spell. In the case of the component pouch, it's assumed it contains whatever free material components you need for your spells. The choice between the two is largely stylistic/cosmetic.
You normally wouldn't use the specific components listed for a spell unless you don't have a component pouch or focus handy.
I think a Druid totem is one of the best thematic spell component replacements. Because they can be more individual, they just seem more "fun" than a priest's holy symbol or a magic wand.
I really love the idea of a gourd full of different animal teeth that you rattle and shake when you summon up the spirits of the natural world to aid you (also a fun way to keep track of animals you can wild shape into!)
Thanks to both of you for your responses. I ended up going with a large bear claw I wear around my neck. It's a claw from the bear that took my eye when I was younger. I ended up writing a 1,500-word narrative for my DM. Might have gotten a bit carried away haha
