Do any of you druids play any other options for CR2 (or even CR1 for that matter) wildshapes considering the somewhat sketchy available options? So many "HUGE" options (unplayable in many dungeon situations/spacing) and creatures almost impossible for the druid to have seen (not too many Quetzalcoatlus running around the Waterdeep area). The only MEDIUM CR2 beast see is a swarm.
Thinking of asking the DM about improving the CR of some more common medium size creatures etc. Example...any reason to not have a CR1 or CR2 Black Bear etc?
Polar/Cave bears are the usual, followed by sabre-toothed tigers, giant boars, and rhino, depending on what your combat style preference is.
(Unless you're looking specifically for medium-sized beasts, in which case yes you're boned and will need to speak with your DM about CR-adjusting other animals.)
We just hit sixth level in our game, and since the DM is playing the rules relatively by the book, I need to see an animal in it's true form before I can Wild Shape into it.
The DM opens up many creative opportunities to find animals, but we are currently in Barovia, so somewhat under constraint as to where we can go/explore (for obvious reasons). It then dawned on me that we ....

...sneaked a look inside Rictavio's wagon and saw his tiger, which we all sort of forgot about. When someone remembered and the DM checked, he realized it was a sabre-tooth.
....so it appears I have at least one LARGE option now. I really am hoping to find some MEDIUM options...I do find the large (and certainly the huge) can be challenging in some space situations, indoors etc.

Neat! (And hilarious.)
If you compare Panther, Tiger, and Saber-Toothed Tiger, you can see how the CR scales the monster's HP and stats. Strangely, the animals' claw attacks are ALL over the place in terms of damage, scaling from d4+2 to d8+3 to 2d6+5 (the latter of which doesn't even make sense because the SBT's STR modifier is +4) despite the usual rule-of-thumb that a size shift should double the damage dice rather than change it (so you'd normally expect the claw to shift from d4 to 2d4 from medium to large).
If I were the DM, and knowing that a large amount of your class identity is tied up in a feature that is difficult to use indoors, I'd let you shift into a "young" SBT. Keep all the stats and make the claw attack d6+4 or something reasonable - maybe even incorporate the Panther's speed bonus.
Or just let you "see" a Giant Constrictor Snake, which should have no problem with confined spaces despite its size, and rocks hard against single foes.

Just a tip: swarms are not an option for the wildshape :
