Representing Naofumi. I don’t see Paladin working, as none of the paths match his tenets, and Naofumi is wishy-washy on who he helps and how and when, and usually is more or less forced to change his mind by Raphtalia, Filo, and other female characters within the manga (and anime).
loosely based off Naofumi. Sure paladin would really make it work.
artifcer and bloodhunter both more fit Naofumi’s skill set. And a lot of his shield absorbing the skills, and the ones that create his offense, are closer to a crimson rite than anything else. Also things like the: blood curse of mutual suffering. Very Naofumi-esque
i guess the question I have before I could help is, by representing him do you mean to mechanically make the character work combat wise? Or do you mean to create him, where mechanically in combat it’s close enough, while you RP it out like you are Naofumi?
I'm personally not so big on the whole remaking characters one for one from various media, especially anime (Much as I do love my eastern cartoons). But if you wanted to play a shield wielding full support character who isn't all about healing, heavy debuffing, or area control, which is closer to naofumi, Paladin is the closest analogue to me. While yes Naofumi is hardly an ideal paladin for most of the paths, I've found most DMs are willing to work with you if you ask to make a more customized oath. Naofumi is also quite flexible in who he helps if he likes them, but does require repayment, though that need not be immediate or just in money. This also isn't to say that Artificer doesn't exactly work, you can easily multiclass if you care much about it, but Paladin is one of the best "defender" type classes if built for it instead of just nuking things with divine smite crits.
Forgive me if this is now a dead topic thread but I think a Celestial Warlock With Pact of The Tome/ Paladin with Oath of Devotion- Protection Fighting Style would be a good method of creating a canon character from official content.
