Sure you can make someone drop their weapon, but on their turn they can just pick it up again. But can you do this? In Melee, On your action hold your disarming attack, until after their attack. Then, you disarm them on your held action, then on your normal action next turn pick up the dropped weapon. Obviously, if they had more than 1 weapon, they can free action to draw new weapon and then attack. But I'm guessing you would have their primary weapon in your hand which they can't attack you with.
Is this even close to worth doing? or pretty much a silly idea?
After disarming, just use your free action to either pick up, or kick away their weapon, or have one of the other melee do it before the mob can pick it back up.
It's also going to depend on the turn order. If one of your allies is between you & your target on the turn order, they can always come in and grab the weapon before your target has a chance to pick it up. Or you could do something like 1) Disarming Attack followed by 2) Shove to push them 5ft away and then stand on the weapon. There's multiple ways to prevent them from regaining their weapon, and a good DM will reward creativity :)

I was thinking about the disarming attack.
