Hello all. I currently play a Human Open Hand Monk. I want to dip into a different class after I get to level 8. I want to gain utility, enemy debuff or passive abilities. My ideas are:
Grave Cleric 3: Magic, Turn Undead, Path to the Grave.
Land Druid 3: Magic, Wildshape for stealth and scouting.
Moon Druid 3: Magic, Wildshape Dire Wolf or Giant Spider.
Personally I think I would do Grave cleric 3, or Moon Druid 2, they just look like they would be fun for a monk.
I think the only one I wouldn't choose would be Circle of the Land, but I don't know which terrain type you were leaning towards since they have a number of domains for that subclass. I guess my question would be what druid spells would you be leaning towards if you went circle of the land? A number of the terrains have useful utility type spells at the 3rd level.
Also curious what kind of character has your monk been so far? Is there something that would mesh really well with your story?

You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
We've been doing Curse of Strahd. The monk used to teach but gave that up to become an adventurer. He reveres nature, life & death. He does not like graverobbers and has killed 2 graverobbers on sight. I have a Moon Druid, Fiend Warlock, and Monk/Wizard in my party currently.
Point buy stats = 10 16 14 8 16 8. I selected Tough feat at Level 1.
At this time I'm leaning towards Grave Cleric and Ranger multiclass. Thematically, Forest or Grassland choices for Druid & Ranger make sense because we have traveled through those areas a lot. Personally, I would ask my DM if I may pick Arctic Land Druid and make up some flavorful story background if needed.

Multiclass into druid, get the druid to multiclass into warlock, and get the warlock to multiclass into wizard.
I see what you did there... *Slow clap*
Back on topic, if your character already hates graverobbers and respects death in its natural form, I'd be also inclined to say Grave Domain Cleric would be the most story-appropriate multiclassing option. Gloom Stalker can also be a good alternative, but then you would veer more on the "killer" type of hunter, which I am not 100% sure would be a good fit, thematically.
SO Dm hinted that our CoS adventure will probably end around Level 10 or Level 11. I will probably dip 3 levels into Grave Cleric or Druid. Thank you all for your input. Please comment more about fun Monk/Ranger or Monk/Cleric builds you have played or experienced in your own adventures.
