Our DM is starting a campaign and I am kind of the Paladin player of the group, love playing the paladin. I am normally kind of like Vengeance, takes his job way too seriously, is how i normally play them but i want to change and the idea i have in my head, im not sure if i should actually multiclass for it, or just stay paladin and just RP the rest of it.
Basically I want to create Grave Domain Paladin, someone who just hates people coming back, maybe he serves under the Raven Queen or someone of similar nature and thats what he does, he is good and funny, Lawful Good, and loves to have fun, but maybe hes like a Grave Warden, goes where he is told he is needed to remove said evils.
I was gonna be Devo Paladin with 2-3 levels of Grave Cleric but is it really worth? Or should I just be Devo Paladin and RP the rest in there. Min Maxing isn't really a huge deal but i do not want to completely gimp my character for RP either.
You don't have to be a cleric to worship a deity, but if you really want to multiclass into cleric, I'd keep it to 1 level.
You're unlikely to benefit from Path to the Grave, so it's only useful if there's another party member that can deal a lot of damage in a single attack. The levels you invest into cleric get you spell slots at a faster rate, but you'd be delaying access to your Paladin class features, and investing in WIS for cleric spellcasting would be splitting your ability scores an awful lot. The extra spell slots, cantrips, ritual casting, and Circle of Mortality are a good deal for a 1 level investment though.
I play for an agressive bunch, I was thinking about that, the ability to use Spare the Dying as a bonus action might actually be useful for my group, and then just be a Devotion Paladin, with a dislike for people coming back as undead.
