While Wood Elves have amazing synergy with pure rangers, its hard to beat the math of the Dex bonus leading to more hits and more damage. Protector Aasimar (the ones with a bonus to wisdom and a daily 1 minute flying speed) can do a lot for you in terms of utility and flavor, if your willing to dip 3 levels into warlock.
You can go Pact of the Chain, and have a familiar that follows you around, similar to a rangers companion.
Gift of the Everliving ones is a great invocation that gives you the the max of every healing roll.
Or you could go pact of the blade and just have you character conjure there weapon at will.
Moon Bow is an invocation that allows your Pact weapon to become a Bow that conjures its own arrows (so you can avoid having to buy weapons) and lets you expend a spell slot to "smite" 2d8 radiant on a hit. It does however require the Archefey patron a DM the permits UA.
You would also get general invocations that provide great utility
Beast speech: At will Speak with animals works great if you can to focus on the Nature aspect of your character.
Devils Sight: Upgrades your Darkvision to 120 feet and allows you to see through magical dark as if it where light. Great if you want to combo in darkness.
Fiendish Vigor: 1d4+4 temp HP at will is super useful, particularly since you can continue to re roll it outside of combat till you get 8 temp HP.
Or you could just go strait ranger, make charisma your dump Stat and have your racial bonus bump back up to something decent.

Im really conflicted. Wood-elfs are obviously made for the ranger class but assaimar are so much cooler. Any help or suggestions?
If you think Aasimar are much cooler, why not play an Aasimar?
