On a side note audible/amazon has been in the news recently for their new program. My understanding they are passing costs of their new AI voice books on popuar authors via pressure and allowing smaller slop books (you'd never finish) to get more profits than the books you enjoy. Daniel Greene has two YouTube vids on it.
As a recommendation, there's a series about a dragon rider in a historical fantasy. Napoleon with dragons. Called Temeraire by Naomi novik. Its got that slight ranger feel of "ranger tactics" win.
Rangers apprentice will still always be high on the list.
Robbin Hobbs assassin series also feels rangers.
Michael Sullivan's Ryria series is also rangers without the name. IMO.
Then there's the classic westerns. Luis L'amour is one such author . Not my forte genre but It was interesting.
There's still an old thread but I tried to add at least some new info.
Thanks, the westerns m well aware of but the others are what I was looking for. I generally don’t do audible - I prefer words on paper ( or screen). We ( the ranger group) have talked about books in a number of threads over the years but I wasn’t going to go searching for something to necro - it was simply easier to post a new thread .
Just wondering if you have an update on what you got.
Also some artificer or mage recommendations with ranger dips. Search it and check the blurbs see if intrest sticks.
1 blacklung captain series by Chris Wooding.
2. And devon monks series starting with cold copper. Steampunk and bounty hunters and monsters. I only liked some of Monks series and not others.
3. Trudy Canavan Wrote a millennium rule series that was an interesting take on magic and exploration of the universe. Her mage series is a decent read as well.
4.Uprooted by naomi novik is nature magic but really wizard. Foud it because of Temeraire being so good.
5. Mistborn series 2 with wax and wane is almost a must read. Sanderson's "bad" books are still good books
Even in books rangers have a PR problem in that writers are apathetic to how such experts exist. There actions speak for themselves they don't care about opinions you either like them or you don't.
But good readers tend to have a nicer view of all 5e rangers. So good book recommendations will help the roleplaying community. Sharing is good.
Still haven’t ordered, the new school year is busier than normal right now..
Hence audible being so useful. You can do other things while finishing stories. Driving, dishes, exercise and more.
I just wish they wouldn't be so shady after making a deal with sanderson on other authors behalf. The promised to help authors make a better chance for living wage payment and instead sold both authors an voices out to AI bad actors.
But time is the bottle neck and do what you need to it also sounds like the problem is lower with direct purchases. (Such as gift cards)
Peter Orullian wrote a book called unrememberd about a planet where the gods needed to make survival difficult for "important reasons". The story follows a "hunter" and i remember finishing it only to want the continued story from book 2. Sadly book 2 wasn't out at the time and I never wet back to it. I only just remembered because he was in the news with B. sanderson about a joint series.
It was so long ago that I'll have to start over again.

Got some gift cards for Amazon and looking for some reading materials. So I’m looking for recommendations.

The Path of the Ranger series by Pedro Urvi is mostly good, although the author's ending of the series left much to be desired.
thanks for both the suggestion and the warning
