Vanish: "you can use the Hide action as a bonus action on your turn. Also, you can’t be tracked by nonmagical means, unless you choose to leave a trail."
Pass without Trace: "For the Duration, each creature you choose within 30 feet of you (including you) has a +10 bonus to Dexterity (Stealth) checks and can’t be tracked except by magical means. A creature that receives this bonus leaves behind no tracks or other traces of its Passage."
From the wording, Vanish is an upgrade version of Pass without Trace and the effect doesn't stack on each other.
Does ranger still need Pass without Trace after level 14 if he/she isn't considering hiding the ally?

Vanish allows Hide with a bonus action (make a Stealth check). It also means the Ranger cannot be tracked by non-magical means.
Pass Without Trace gives Ranger and allies within 30 ft a +10 to Stealth checks. It also means allies cannot be tracked by non-magical means.
Vanish only: Ranger Roll Stealth check with Action or Bonus Action.
Vanish + PWT: Ranger Roll Stealth check with Action or Bonus Action and add +10.

Other way around. Vanish is like a much weaker bit of PWT.
Both PWT and Vanish mean you cannot be tracked by non-magical means. This means if an enemy was trying to find you they would not be able to succeed at a Survival check to track your footprints, scent, etc.
Vanish means, in addition, you can use the Hide action as a Bonus Action.
PWT means, in addition, you and your allies get +10 bonus to Stealth checks.
That +10 bonus is great. Especially if you have somebody in the party wearing heavy armour.
So yes, there is a lot of reason why you will still want to use PWT past 14th level.

PWT is awesome for the ranger (alone, with a beast, or with a full party) at lower levels. If you are playing a sneaky ranger by the time you get to level 14, then its a nice option to have. The previous comments are on point. The two things, the ability and the spell, compliment one another very well. They can be used by themselves as well.
