My first instinct was that the rogue's success was centered around Sneak Attack...either finding more ways to get it (Scout or Swashbuckler), or finding ways to enhance it (Assassin or Inquisitive).
"Thief" was a subclass I had passed over...the "Fast Hands" feature seemed meager compared to the mobility of a Swashbuckler or Scout, or the social potential of a Mastermind or Inquisitive.
The "Use Magic Item" and "Thief Reflexes" were impressive, but so far off it seemed a chore to reach.
My mistake was not taking time to study the variety of items available to "Fast Hands"...the potential to heal allies with the "Healer" feat...the multitude of poisons and potions one could apply to weaponry and subsequently use immediately to attack or incapacitate targets...ball bearings and caltrops to scatter as you dash away...and the BOMBS...
There is a level of versatility to Thief rogues I hadn't considered, rivaling that of Arcane Tricksters, but without reliance on magic. Perhaps a need to gain proficiency in "Alchemy Kits" or "Tinker Tools"...but the possibilities of this class intrigues me.
Tell me...what are some of the interesting things you all have managed to do with a Thief rogue? What are some items, magical or otherwise, that a Thief can put to use?
So...apparently I've had the rogue all wrong.
