I just rolled stats with the dm and they are awful. I am determined to accept the stats though - the reason being if the stats were good I'd take them so I have to accept the fickle fate of the dice. I also quite like the challenge.
What I got was 13, 11, 11, 11, 7, 7 and I am playing human. The character concept is a gypsy - so charlatan background - rogue going on to thief.
I was thinking of doing variant human. Starting skills, sleight of hand, deception, perception, stealth, animal handling, athletics & acrobatics
11 STR, 14 DEX, 11, CON, 7 WIS, 7 INT & 12 CHA with a Magic initiate feat taking minor illusion, prestidigitation and also find familiar, since none of those spells require an intelligence check
I don't know if that is a good idea. Should I play el standardo humano and get +1 to all stats? What feats should I prioritise, I was thinking skulker or observant next? Are the stats in the right order?
Should I scrap the magic initiate feat and go arcane trickster? I just don't think my stats are good enough to build around anything that doesn't rely on the 14 Stat. Further to this, I don't expect the game to go above level 10 so there is that in mind.
This is probably the only time I'd ever say normal human would be a good option. All your rolls are odd so it'd actually be a big boost. Dex 14 and con 12 are the only things that are important. Charisma and wis 12 with Strength and int 8 probably if you're set on thief. Also, rogues don't generally need feats to be successful so I think the start increases are the way to go. That means you should probably spend your ASIs on Dex. At level 10 you'd still be able to get to Dex to 20.
