I am DMing a PbP game, and I have a player who is playing a cleric. They have developed their character in a really cool and interesting way. Long story short, the party decided to join a pirate, and this player roleplayed with the pirate really well and now wants to take a Swashbuckler level. Which, would make perfect story sense. My question is this Swashbuckler is technically a rogue archetype that is only available at level 3 for rogues. Is there a way to give my player the really cool thing that we both want, or do I need to make him take rogue levels first?
You don't have to be a Swashbuckler to be a swashbuckler, if you take my meaning. I second the idea of rolling the features he wants into a feat. If you want to directly reward the roleplaying (which is good!), give the player a pirate retinue, a magic pirate hat, or something else exciting that's within the normal bounds of "you did great, here's a thing!"
In DMs Guide there is alternative rewards one of them is training which can grant a character extra skill proficiency or a feat. I agree you can roll some of the features into one or more feats albeit with some limitations (like battle master and martial adept feat)
We are playing 5e and I am multiclassing a Paladin Rogue. I played around with my levels a bit to figure out the best things to choose as I level up and have discovered, that when it comes to taking an oath, I can only take the Oath of Devotion and for the Rogueish Archetype I can only become a Thief..... Does any of you know, why that could be?
I also tried deleting my one of the classes to see if one class kept the other from it, but it didnt... Could it have to do with my Abilities?
(Streangh 13, Dex 16, Const 13, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 13)

You need to unlock the other non-free archetypes with a purchase from the Marketplace.
Either that, or you can homebrew the archetypes for your private use.
Hi, I'm creating a Rouge4/Warlock1 character with online character creation, and I wanted some opinions on my spell choice. The intent is to have a rogue with minor spell casting abilities based in illusion.

What archetype for rogue because from your spell selection i see little reason to get warlock you can get arcane trickster and get these spells. You don't need both charm person and command together to begin with since both does similar things and both uses same save so you are not getting anything out of it.
He's got the Thief archetype right now because I'm using the base version D&D Beyond. If I take Charm Person over command what would you recommend?
Well this is my opinion but instead of sorcerer you choose warlock and to be honest choosing warlock means you want something only warlock can get and for 1st level that is either eldritch blast which you can't use with sneak attack so i can see why you don't want it (though it becomes two bolts at character level 5 so it is 2d10 for one creature or 1d10 for two) or hex which stacks with your sneak attack and unlike command or charm person you can move it from target to target as soon as your target drops 0 hp it also grants disadvantage on an ability checks and it is no hit no save.
Thank for the advice, When I chose Warlock it was more for RP purposes. My thinking being any natural innate magic would have probably shown itself b4 now, so the next best place to gain magic would be to make a deal for it.
If you plan on taking another level of Warlock at character level 6, I'd consider dropping minor illusion as a cantrip for the Misty Visions invocation that gives you the Silent Image spell at will. Also, if you are open to purchasing a spell from the Sword Coast Adventures Guide, then Green Flame Blade or Booming Blade are great cantrips that will add an extra 1D8 to your attack rolls.
The Hex spell has uses beyond combat as well. Use Hex to make wisdom checks at disadvantage for someone you are about to pickpocket or sneak by. Or nerf their Charisma checks while trying to deceive or persuade them.

Normally, PC Charisma checks are opposed by Wisdom (Insight) checks. NPCs don't normally make Charisma checks.

It is still a skill check not a save so hex works

You could make a cleric domain for him and have him switch to it.

You can also try to let that character take the features of the Swashbuckler as feats.

I tend to agree. Gifting him a nice swashbuckling outfit and a magic trinket or two to keep him on the path. Ring of waterwalking,....comes to mind.
Let the player decide if he wants to Rouge multiclass for the rest.

This sounds like a perfect opportunity for a magical eye-patch that grants an appropriate skill bonus when worn.

Thanks for the advice, I never thought about using hex like that. The plan is to go Rogue 15/ Warlock 5.
