Hi, everyone! I'm working in a series of articles for my blog dedicated to each of the 13 classes, and I plan to finish each one with a short list famous examples of such class in fantasy tropes, be it novels, movies, TV shows, comics or video games.
(Extra XP if you also include some details about the reason for your ideas and what you like or don't like about the class, both as a player or DM)
Having said that, what characters come to your mind when thinking of ROGUE?
IMO, rogues are typified by their ability to rely on their skill outside of combat to give them the edge.
There's a long list of characters I would call rogues. Zorro, Bilbo Baggins, any Assassin's Creed MC, most protagonists in any heist movie, Garret from the Thief series, etc.
I cant believe no one has suggested Wolverine yet.
Wolverine strikes me as more of a barbarian, channeling emotion into strength and shrugging off damage. Rogues are fairly skill heavy, both in and out of combat.
Modern day era, Money Heist is a huge one. They mostly all fit the bill exactly. Individually some do even more. After that I'd follow with the idea of Assassin's Creed characters/lore.
Arsene Lupin, Lupin the 3rd, Protag & Morgana from Persona 5, Gentle from My Hero Academia, Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler), Malcom Reynolds, Prince Zuko, Puss 'N Boots, & Peter Quill (Starlord)

Edit: Forgot an important one, Sherlock Holmes.
Gord the Rogue
The Gray Mouser
It reminds me about Ali Baba and the 40.000 thieves.
Also the supposed thief from The Bible : BARRABÁS ( or Bar Abba ).
The Zingary people.... from eastern Europe.
My Ready-to-rock&roll chars:

I've always seen Batman, ninjas, and mostly characters that use intelligence and cunning to beat tougher opponents.
The Dread Pirate Roberts, from Princess Bride
Garrett from the ORIGINAL "Thief" games struck me as your legendary rogue-like figure.
To a lesser extent (but voiced by the same actor), Corvo Attano from "Dishonored" was a sneaky rogue-assassin...when he wasn't being loud : ]

Shadowspawn (among others) from RL Asprin's Thieves' World series.
Littlefinger and Arya from GoT
Hey, now we have the Ghost of Tsushima.
I picture something similar to a Swashbuckler Rogue...except, you know, with katanas.
Arsene Lupin, Lupin the 3rd, Protag & Morgana from Persona 5, Gentle from My Hero Academia, Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler), Malcom Reynolds, Prince Zuko, Puss 'N Boots, & Peter Quill (Starlord)
Arya from GOT (assassin)
Stainless Steet Rat is a thief (scifi by Harry Harrison)
Alladin is a thief
Artemis Entreri and Erevis Cale in Forgotten realms (Assassins)
Captain Jack Sparrow, Robin Hood, and Zorro (swashbucklers)
Marvel's Psylocke (Soul Knife). One of the movie versions works for this.
