I know Siren isn’t a race or class - but I’m trying to create a character who’s a female pirate who’s also a sorcerer but have her also be a siren. So my question is - are there any good backgrounds to chose for this? Are there any spells that would work best for this type of character? Or maybe not have her be a spell caster and rather be something else? (I’m trying to avoid bards because I don’t want her to use an instrument) I’m also trying to stay away from homebrew so it’s not too much for my DM
My idea is she either sings to cast the spell, or have her be something like Black Canary from comics where she can create a sonic noise by “singing”.
I’m fairly new to all of this, so please let me know if you have any ideas to share!
A reflavored yuan-ti could be your best approach. yuan-ti get suggestion starting at 3rd level
Maybe a bladesinger wizard instead of a bard? Would fit a swashbuckley sort of pirate character, and being a wizard would get you access to the widest range of charm-type spells

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
Depending on how you want to build it I would suggest a bard first off as they're far more known for their singing, which is something sirens do.
That aside, if you're playing a sorc, I would suggest either Abberant Mind or Divine Soul. You'll be looking for spells that mess with opponents minds so Mind Sliver, Tasha's Mind Whip, and the like. I suggest divine soul because, not only can you possibly work something out with your GM regarding the wings (like maybe you can use them before normal; but it's purely cosmetic and you can't actually 'fly' till later on) but you can get spells like bless and bane but tap into stuff like Command and Fast Friends which would likely be thematically appropriate for a siren. The thing about sirens is that there's a lot of ways you can potentiall take them. Like you can argue they'd be a solid support at which point healing spells would be useful. Or if you want to play into more of how they can manipulate people/emotions/etc calm emotions and dissonent whispers would fit.

I'm a bit late to this but you might find what you want here: https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Plane_Shift
Look into the Planeshift: Ixalan option and they have a Siren playable option, the options listed are based around the Magic the Gathering CCG.
