1. Covert spell slots from the ring to Sorcery Points as a Bonus Action.
2. Use metamagic on a spell that I cast into the ring. For example, could I twin Cure Wounds and quicken Fire Ball when I cast them into the ring for later use?
Just wondering how much flexibility a Sorcerer has with this item.
I am, wondering if I can use metamagic when I cast the spell into the ring for storage. More specifically, can I store a "quickened" Fireball in the ring. In this sense, the ring is storing both the 3rd level spell and the metamagic.
The spell doesn't have any effect when it's cast into the ring, and the only statistics that carry over are the save DC, spell attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the original caster; it's otherwise treated as if the wearer cast it. Thus, the wearer of the ring has to apply Metamagic, not the donor of the spell.
1. I don't think the ring stores spell slots, but the actual spell so you wouldn't be able to convert anything.
2. Since the ring stores the spell, anything done to the spell with Metamagic should also be stored. If you use Metamagic, or anything else to alter a spell, then store that spell it should have those effects. Hint: I would suggest using any Metamagic effect in conjunction with Empowered spell to have both effects on the spell that gets stored.
Just read what the ring of spell storing "stores" when it casts a spell: "The spell uses the slot level, spell save DC, spell attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the original caster, but is otherwise treated as if you cast the spell." So if it does not indicate metamagic is stored or metamagic options are used (it does not), then they are not. Specifically, you can apply metamagic to spells you cast in the ring, it's just that when they're cast using the ring, that's not one of the things retained or used, so it's a waste. Conversely, when you cast a spell using the ring, reading all of the metamagic abilities, you can use them when you cast a spell, and the spells cast from the ring are using the stored values indicated but are otherwise cast as though you cast them, and thus would be valid targets for metamagic to be applied to them at that time.
I had to cast True Resurrection on this post, just because I'm a LOVER of the sorceror class, and Ring of Spell Storing is PRIMO to being an epic-level sorcerer. All emphasis is mine, in order to point out consistencies.
Ring of Spell Storing Description:
This ring stores spells "CAST INTO IT", holding them until the attuned wearer uses them. The ring can store up to 5 levels worth of spells at a time. When found, it contains 1d6 − 1 levels of stored spells chosen by the GM.
Any creature can "CAST A SPELL" of 1st through 5th level into the ring by touching the ring as the spell is cast. The spell has no effect, other than to be "STORED" in the ring. If the ring can't hold the spell, the spell is expended without effect. The level of the slot used to cast the spell determines how much space it uses.
While wearing this ring, "YOU CAN CAST ANY SPELL STORED IN IT." The spell uses the slot level, spell save DC, spell attack bonus, and "SPELLCASTING ABILITY OF THE ORIGINAL CASTER," but is otherwise treated as if YOU cast the spell. The spell cast from the ring is no longer stored in it, freeing up space.
Now the Metamagic Description:
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to twist your spells to suit your needs. You gain two of the following Metamagic options of your choice. You gain another one at 10th and 17th level.
You can use only one Metamagic option on a spell "WHEN YOU CAST IT," unless otherwise noted.
My Conclusion: Metamagic is essentially an additional feature tacked onto to the description of a spell AS IT IS CAST. So if I cast a Fly + Quicken Spell into the ring, it would take up 3 slots, and the spell that is cast would read a casting time of 1 Bonus Action instead of 1 Action. If I cast Burning Hands + Transmuted Spell (Cold) into the ring. It would take 1 slot and the description of the spell cast from the ring would read COLD damage instead of FIRE damage. And that's the benefit of casting INTO the ring as a sorcerer.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! The Metamagic description says you can only apply one Metamagic to a spell WHEN YOU CAST IT. If a sorcerer is recasting a Metamagiked spell from their own ring, there is NO REASON, in any of the wording, to deny that it counts as it's own, freshly cast spell, and therefore can be made subject to an ADDITIONAL Metamagic. YES! THAT PART! In other words, a sorcerer could store a Transmuted and Empowered Thunderball when CASTING INTO the ring. Then release that SAME Thunderball with Quicken Spell when CASTING FROM the ring. I see no reason why such combos shouldn't work.
The Ring of Spell Storing is an absolute must for any sorcerer. Never again let unused spell slots and sorcery points go to waste before that long rest.
If anyone would see any reason that shouldn't work, WITHOUT hating on it just because it's awesome, let me know.

I'd say that's going to heavily depend on how your DM sees it. I can see your logic but it's just as logical to assume the metamagic doesn't get stored and is just wasted if used this way since the item description says it stores the spell, not the spell plus any modifiers like metamagic, elemental affinity, etc.
Plus when you use the ring of spell storing you aren't just letting the spell go off, you're actually casting it again. Just without using a spell slot and components. So it's not like using the item would stop one from applying such modifiers at that time instead of beforehand. Nothing gained, nothing lost would be an entirely fair approach from the DM here as well.
Not sure if there's a SA Compendium entry for that or if Crawford said anything about that interaction already though.

I know this is an older entry, but I was curious as to whether anyone weighed in here… I am considering this as a quest boon for a sorcerer in my campaign and found this argument intriguing.
I know my DM would not allow the metamagic to be stored. Metamagic acts on a spell but is not part of the spell so the ring would only store the basic spell.

Are either of these actions allowed:
1. Covert spell slots from the ring to Sorcery Points as a Bonus Action.
2. Use metamagic on a spell that I cast into the ring. For example, could I twin Cure Wounds and quicken Fire Ball when I cast them into the ring for later use?

Metamagic works with any spell you are able to cast since the description does not specify the source of those spells.
For Font of Magic, I'd say that the Ring of Spell Storing has not exactly spell slots, so it would not work with it.
Sorry if I wasn't clear:

Hmmm...you both make good arguments (for and against)! Anyone know of a ruling on this?
Just read what the ring of spell storing "stores" when it casts a spell: "The spell uses the slot level, spell save DC, spell attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the original caster, but is otherwise treated as if you cast the spell." OK I'm convinced. This keeps things a little simpler anyhow. . .
