Yeah that would work well and keeps more of the original idea. So you’re basically saying:
Your divine nature gives you access to a wide variety of spells. You can choose one cantrip from the cleric spell list and learn it. Also, you may choose two level 1 spells and two level 2 spells from the cleric spell list and add them to your spell list. When you reach Sorcerer levels 5, 7 and 9, you can choose two more cleric spells to add to your list. These spells do not count towards your maximum number of prepared spells but otherwise function as Sorcerer spells for you. Whenever you gain a Sorcerer level, you can replace one of the spells gained through this feature with another cleric spell for which you have spell slots.

This sounds good to me.
Honestly, I would just love a revisit of the Divine Soul Sorcerer in general; it feels like it's a huge missed opportunity 2 years after 5.5e has been released.
I was hoping Spellfire would be a good replacement, but it doesn't feel like the same subclass at all.
I somehow doubt they would give unfettered access to the Cleric spell lists after seeing how they're handling most Sorc subclasses in 5.24, even if the actual number of spells you could take is limited. That said, I wonder if there are any spell combos of the Sorc + Cleric variety from 2.14 that people thought were overtuned and should be prevented by use of a stricter list a la the normal Sorc subclass spell list expansion paradigm.
I guess I just think that there might be zero reason to multiclass Cleric/Sorc if Divine Sorc makes a comeback with no restrictions on spell list. Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing, but I do wonder if that's a consideration.
