I was playing with the new dice roller for my son's sorcerer character. I noticed that the math the dice roller gives does not add the +4 modifier he has for his spell damage. Is this a bug or am I mistaken and he doesn't get +4 damage on his spells? He has +7 on spell attacks, which the digital dice do take into account. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I'm relatively new to DnD and DMing.
Oh, he'll be disappointed to learn that. Aside from getting to 6th level, is there any other uses for the modifier?
Thanks
His spell attack modifier is his proficiency bonus plus his spell casting modifier. The DC for saving throws against his spells is 8 + his proficiency bonus + his spell casting modifier. Almost every single spell he casts in combat will either have an attack roll or a saving throw associated with it.

Your spellcasting ability modifier is part of your attack roll(your Spell Attack Bonus is your ability mod plus your proficiency bonus), and part of your Spell Save DC(what other creatures have to roll to succeed when you cast a spell that forces them to make a saving throw). There may also be occasions when you have to make a simple ability check using your spellcasting ability, such as when you try to cast Counterspell against a higher-level spell.
To damage as a sorcerer? Just the draconic bloodline subclass lets you do that, and only when the damage type matches the dragon damage type. Other classes sometimes get the ability though, such as clerics, but only for cleric spells, and warlocks with Agonizing Blast, but only for Eldritch Blast. The sidekick class Spellcaster gets it applied to all their cantrips at level 6, but it's a half-caster class with no martial abilities and no multiclassing. Some classes let you apply your spellcasting modifier to the damage of weapon attacks, such as druid, ranger, warlock, artificer, and maybe bard. Generally though, the modifier is only applied to spell save DCs, spell attack rolls, and often spell healing (where listed in the spell).

Most spells don't include your spellcasting modifier for the damage.
A few class features can allow you to add it anyways, like the 6th level feature of the Draconic bloodline.
