I feel like the Pact of the Tome Boon that you can choose as a Warlock should grant an additional spell slot. The Pact of the Tome allows my current level 7 Warlock have 7 Cantrips (that's with the Eldritch Adept feat and the bonus cantrip i get as an Aasimar) and in total 10 spells (2 of which are 1st level that are ritual cast at will 1/day spells from the Eldritch Adept). That's a lot of magic for only at max 2 spell slots till level 11 and even then at most a level 20 Warlock can only have 4 spell slots. And yeah there's the Invocations that give extra spells but half of them are "Use a Warlock spell slot to cast *insert spell here* and you can't recast this till you take a long or short rest" and the other half is either detect good and evil or disguise self, how is that fair? 2 spell slots and you have to expend one just to be able to use animate dead or freedom of movement? Pact of the Tome should grant an extra spell slot to Warlocks just as how Pact of the Chain allows for Familiars to not be average run of the mill animals or Pact of the Blade gives special features like it being a magic weapon.
And if i'm in the wrong here please let me know, cause i am having a blast playing my Warlock right now (its a much needed break from 3 clerics in a row) but my dm even agrees and is allowing me to have an extra spell slot just because they know how frustrating this is. And i know not every dm would do this nor would everyone see it my way or whatever. I'm just frustrated cause PotT grants so much extra umph it deserves its extra spell slot
Ask your DM nicely if you can have a Rod of the Pact Keeper, +1 is only uncommon. Otherwise think about getting a feat at level 8 that gives you 1-2 spells per day extra. For Example I find Fey Touched very good for Warlocks.
The lack of spell slots is the balance on the Warlock, because they get many abilities that other classes would love to have. As was already pointed out, ritual casting does not cost a spell slot, and that is the concept with a Tomepact. Just cast lots of rituals, and you won't miss the spell slots. Chainpacts and Hexblades don't have that option.
If your DM gives you an additional slot, its their table. But I feel that akin to a Sorcerer saying because they are a Draconic Bloodline, they should have more than d6 HP's. Some limitations are for balancing.
Multi-class for some low level spelll slots for those spells that you want to cast that don't need the level boost. Level 3 gets you 6 slots from a wizard or sorcerer.

I did this exact thing with my warlock. Level 6 I took a level of Bard. Getting a couple level 1 spell slots to play with, ritual casting options, and the initial Bard class benefits was well worth the level, and the synergy riding off CHA added plenty of mileage to the issue of minimal spell slots.

When you cast rituals from your book of shadows you do not need to spend a spell slot, just the extra time to cast a ritual.

Did it with a level of knowledge cleric. Got me a shield, medium armor, skills, and some first level spell slots.
