So, I play a level 6 gunslinger in mini campaign, and recently had shaken hands with Death itself, in an attempt to push away Death's attention from the group and (most importantly) himself. Man's self-preservation is insane. Point is, I now want to go into warlock. Yes this keeps happening. I don't know why.
My question is - which of the Patrons do I go with? Naturally, Hexblade would work best but I don't know if we'll be going high-level enough to where I could stack invocations in a fun/cool way, and we're currently level 5 (leveling up soon, apparently). Felix the Gunslinger has 20 in Dex and 14 in Charisma, currently, so using Hexblades' charisma bonus isn't feasible. I've been looking at a few both official and unofficial subclasses, and Undead with it's Form of Dread seems doable?
Suggestions with builds involving both homebrew and official subclasses :)
Based on the character's experience with Death, I would suggest going with the Undead patron from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, since it feels like the best fit. Perhaps, the handshake with Death caused the creation of the pact between them, and now your gunslinger finds themselves occasionally serving so as to keep Death's attention on other matters (i.e., targets besides their group).
As for warlock abilities, the Form of Dread would prove both useful and potentially thematic. The temporary hit points and immunity to the frightened condition would show how your gunsligner is a "tough as nails" fighter. Plus, your attacks can frighten others, so shooting enemies and scaring them away also feels appropriate. Not sure if you're mini-campaign will run long enought to see 6th-level warlock abilities, but Undead would certainly give you some nice bonuses.
