So one of my players is a Warlock, and he took the Pact of the Chain as his third level feat, gaining a Pseudodragon from his pact entity.
He also learned the Darkness spell as one of his second level spells. As the spell description goes, he is able to use one of the objects he is holding (in this case his scimitar) as the focus of the spell, and the Darkness spell would travel around with him as long as he has it up.
Pseudodragons have Blindsight, which effectively means even though they are Blinded by the Darkness spell, it can still "see".
Pseudodragons also have Limited Telepathy, which means the pseudodragon can magically communicate simple ideas, emotions, and images telepathically with any creature within 100 feet of it that can understand a language.
My question is, how many creatures can the dragon telepath to at any point of time? It does say "any" creature. Does this mean one singular creature or multiple? Because if it's multiple, it effectively means that the player plus all his companions can see within the Darkness spell because the Pseudodragon would be able to inform them of what's going on inside the Darkness sphere, as long as the Pseudodragon was riding on the Warlock's shoulder or something, while any opponent within 15 feet of the Warlock would be blinded even if they had darkvision.
Funny enough, this very question was asked years ago (from what a quick search discovered).
While this ultimately comes down to a DM's discretion, the overall answer is that this idea does not pan out. A warlock with Devil Sight and some form of telepathy could do much the same but it still does not on its own negate the Blinded condition suffered by those within the Darkness. While a direction and distance may have been stated, it does not override the matter of still trying to hit without being able to visually gauge distance, depth perception, or height. Think of it as you go to throw at a dart board but first close your eyes, the dart board gets moved, and you are then told the direction and distance of where it is at. Would you be able to hit it with certainty? Maybe, maybe not; but, that is what the disadvantage in essence becomes.
Further, the Limited Telepathy also states the pseudodragon communicates in simple ideas, emotes, and images. How fine a detail is up to the DM to decide upon which may not be much of anything. It may be able to convey a direction but not a measured distance. It might show an image in your mind, but is that image based on its own sight at the moment it sends it? Is it a static image or not? Given it is relying on enhanced senses to "see", is that image just a pitch black picture?
On the whole, this is likely not going to work mechanically, especially in the midst of active combat. Again though, it does come down to how a DM wishes to rule on it and whether the pseudodragon may or may not be able to do this; and if it can, what the limitations may be.
