I could have sworn as a Warlock you get a Patron at level 1.
I cannot for the life of me find out how you pick it though or where.
In character creation I couldn't find it. I did find an old reddit post that said go to manage->manage levels. In there I see:
Core Warlock Traits - which has Aas a level 1 character etc. Eldritch Invocation Pact Magic - there is no option in it to do anything just says you basically get spells.
I own PHB, Tasha, and Xanthar, thought there were a few in there to pick from. Or am I just mixing up something here?
Well, I have always felt that the Patron selected the client and not the other way around. Thus, the prospective warlock needs to attract the attention of the Patron and then to gain the interest of the Patron.
A devil will be attracted by the prospect of luring another soul into Somewhere That Is Not Very Nice.
An Archfey might be amused by the antics of a clumsy mortal client (as Puck once remarked in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", 'What fools these mortals be').
A Celestial might be attracted by a client who has a good heart but a wretched existence.
A Great Old One..........probably has intentions that are not easily discerned.
August 3, 2025: it remains to be seen what additional Patrons might be possible with the forthcoming Heroes of Faerun. However, I am still of the opinion that the Patron chooses the client and not the other way around.

Wait a darn tootin minute... are Patron's now "Subclass" selected at level 3?
Patron's were always subclasses and yes all subclasses got moved to level 3 on all classes.
