I’ve gone back and forth on this so much that I need some advice.I’m working on a Fighter 1/Celestial Warlock 19 build that maximizes both Charisma for damage first and then Constitution for health back on Searing Vengeance and Boon of Recovery. Make sense so far?
i wanted to incorporate both of the new Infernal feats too, so I replaced Warcaster with Bulwark and Visions of Distant Realms with Eldritch Mind since I have a familiar that can do that invisibly and reorganized the feats/eldritch invocations accordingly.
As much as I wanted to make Bulwark Constitution based since Con is what my Epic Boon boosts, I realize getting my Charisma to 20 first is more important. I have been told I worry too much about the late game and not about the current, so I'm trying to remedy that. Combine that with the lower damage dealt and lower level spell that comes with Bulwark and I figure I should take them when they are most usefull. Plus, the boost in AC seems more impactful on earlier levels too, and I probably won’t get more powerful armor for battle until later. At that point, I can take it off to go stealth for some missions or wear it for battle, since a 17 unarmored defense AC really isn’t that good for front-line fighting (I’m designed for both, but still…)
So to summarize, my ASI/Feats for my Fighter 1/Celestial Warlock 19 are:
5: Infernal Bulwark - Charisma 17 to 18
9: ASI - Charisma 18 to 20
13: Infernal Dragoon - Con 16 to 17
17: ASI - Con 17 to 19
20: Boon of Recovery - Con 19 to 20
And for refrence, my Eldritch Invocations are:
2: Eldritch Mind
3: Agonizing Blast
3: Pact of the Blade
6: One with the Shadows
6: Thirsting Blade
8: Repelling Blast
10: Pact of the Chain
13: Devouring Blade
16: Witch’s Sight
19: Lessons of the Fist Ones (Tough)
So, tell me what you think? Am I on the right track with this Infernal Pact build?
P.S.:My overall strategy is to stay in back and spam Eldritch Blast with other spells like Hex and Wall of Fire until approached, so my AC of 17 won’t be so bad. Then if cornered I can still fight in melee without Spell Sniper.
Oh! And I have stealth as one of my stat increases since I don’t need armor. Does that make sense?
There’s something else too. Has anyone else noticed the glitch with Infernal Bulwark. It said in the description that shields aren’t suppose to count for your ASI when using this unarmored defense, but when I have one equipped it counts, taking my mediocre 17 and turning it into a 19! It’s an easy fix: just don’t equip a shield with it. I was hust curious if any DM’s would allow this loophole, or whether it is rules as written vs. rules as implemented.
