I'm not a huge fan of spells that can be bypassed by a single saving throw, especially for Warlocks who only have 2 spell slots per short rest. Hold Monster is great when it works, but the target get's a wisdom save to end the spell every round.
Synaptic Static is one that I like if you have Xanather's Guide to Everything. It's an area of effect with an intelligence saving throw and it also has an ongoing affect for 1 minute that doesn't require concentration.
Two for one banishment! I didn’t realize that either. It really seems like a warlocks power comes on line at ninth level when you get that fifth level spot and access to fifth level spells. I also noticed that ninth level gives you access to minions of chaos invocation which allows you to cast conjure elemental.
Just be warned that Conjure Elemental takes a minute to cast. It lasts a full hour though. It’s incredibly powerful when you can plan ahead, but when you’re surprised you can’t use it.
Ahhhh there’s always a catch. Although it would be pretty handy to have an Elemental through multiple encounters. I also have Summon Greater Demon which is a risky spell even if the demon is making savings throws with disadvantage. I’ll probably try out both spells to see how the work in practice although I generally try to avoid invocations that require spell slots.
Outside of combat, Dream is one of my favorites. It's like Sending, but there's no limit on word count, and you can actually have a real discussion with the subject of the spell. Its usefulness depends on the campaign; if you've got a lot of important NPCs to speak with all over the campaign map, it's awesome. If you're in a monster-of-the-week grind or a dungeon crawl with a bunch of murder-hobos, you won't need it.

I am ever so slowly creeping toward 9th level with my Hexblade Chainlock.
Got any good fifth level spell suggestions?
Hold monster seems like an auto pick for locking down monsters and auto critical hits.
What other fifth level spells do you guys like?

Actually synaptic static does look like a pretty good spell. I also just noticed Hexblade also get Cone if Cold. So many good choices!
Banishment cast at 5th level so that it affects 2 opponents is incredible too!

I always avoided invokotions that use spell slots too. But summoning an elemental is worth it!

In the games I play, it's kind of a must-have.
DICE FALL, EVERYONE ROCKS!
I like Wall of Light for it's versatility,r using it as a block and disorient then fire off excess parts of it.
