I made a warlock on this sight for the fun of it and only see "The Fiend" as an option for Otherworldly Patron, under the PHB game set. Was wondering if there was a reason behind this or if it was more of an oversight.
Fiend is the only Patron option included in the Basic Rules. If you haven't purchased any of the source books through D&D Beyond, the only options that will show in the character builder are the ones from the Basic Rules that are free for everyone. Yes, it means if you already bought the books in print, you'll have to buy digital versions on here to have the character options included in the character builder.
Alternatively if you don't want to buy the entire Player's Handbook or anyone of the books, you could buy just the one Patron? I did that so I could just get the Archfey a while back.

True, though I imagine the Basic Rules also only have a portion of the Warlock spell list.
do i have to bye them again next year or are the digital books a 1 time purchase
Once you buy the books, you have them.
You won't have the new books that are coming out later this year, with updated classes and subclasses, but you should be able to keep using the ones you have.

How exactly do you just buy the one patron? I've had the physical books for years and don't need an electronic version, but if it was cheap I might throw down for a patron to add to my game.

To get the other patrons you have to buy the books on D&D Beyond. The physical books don’t count.

Oh I see. I do have the PHB already so there is that, and thank you.

Do what, specifically?

You can't anymore. You have to buy the whole book, homebrew it, or get into a game with content sharing.
Well, that's a bummer. Homebrew it is.
