So you are counting the attack, rage and reckless features in your calculation for Barbarians but only counting cantrips and one invocation for the Warlock? Mk. It's fine if you just like Barbarian better but you need to keep your argument intellectually honest.
If we assume Level 2 for both to get the features you want, then the damage calc is more like this if we are comparing full level 2 against full level 2-
Barb- 1 attack with Great Axe- 6.5 avg weapon damage + 3 Strength + 2 Rage= 11.5 total
Warlock- 1 attack with EB- 5.5 avg force damage + 3 charisma + 3.5 avg Hex damage= 12 total
Technically Warlock wins. I would say realistically they tie. Barb has 2 Rages and Warlock has 2 Spells so they have even likelihood of applying that damage from each. Barb is more durable but Warlock can easily attack from cover and range- survivability is similar.
Again- if you love Barb thats 100% ok but lets keep the discussions involving the math and mechanics intellectually honest.
Actually I was just using your scenario, so any critique towards it is also a critique towards you. And yes I was including Hex in the calculation as well, though saying 8+CHA was a mistake on my part since it obviously should have been 9+CHA. Also hell no I don't like Barbarian better. I'm completely a Warlock (and Artificer and Ranger) person. I just found your post to be flawed.
Also I said Great-sword for a reason. It's mathetmatically the better weapon unless you fish for big crits. It's more reliable than the Greataxe and has a better average.
Don't be mad just because I corrected you. It's not like I disagreed with the point of your post. I showed that the Warlock keeps up well damage output wise. I only disagreed with using max damage calculation for it.
Cough cough- Bodanger started the discussion on "Max Damage" not I. Cough Cough
Great Sword does average damage of 7 which brings the average for Barb to 12....exactly even with Warlock. So as I mentioned a tie. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk lol.

Right, my bad. You just picked up his argument. My point still stands though. Any critique towards the scenario is a critique towards the one who originally posted it. And yes it's a tie. I did say the Warlock does well with keeping up myself. What's your point? Welcome to my Ted Talk I guess.
No real point at this point :) We mostly fundamentally agree. I just enjoy verbal repartee with fellow Warlock enthusiasts :)
Warlock, max the charisma, eldritch blast + agonising blast + hex 1d10+5+1d6 every hit!
Keep armour of agathys for when stabby twats get too close!
As long as both shots hit at level 5 (take maddening hex invocation) 1st round sets up hex, 2nd round opens up maddening hex
2d10+10+2d6+5 psychic damage to two targets (as long as they're within 5ft of each other) even if you miss as long as the target is cursed you deal the psychic damage.
That's just in combat, nothing stopping you going tomelock casting find familiar, hexing your familiar then having breakfast (short rest) both spell slots back and hex is up and running ready to go. You can get so many utility spells as a tomelock that combat will be the last of your worries. If you don't have a bard in the party warlock is your go to jack of all trades lol

That's why taking 3 levels sorcerer is a very nice option to consider
playing since 1986
This is the best answer I've seen!
