HI, I am going to be playing a campaign with my nieces and nephews, it is only their second time playing. My nephew is making a campaign that he wants to DM, it is the year 3040 the earth is overrun by zombies the survivors live on what is left of the moon and aliens from Mars are coming to Earth to investigate. Our characters missed the last shuttle to safety leaving us the only people on earth that is not a zombie or an alien.
So far we have a Warforged Fighter, a Shifter Druid, a Kenku (class to be decided), and I am going to be a Tortle. I am leaning toward Hexblade but have never played as a Warlock. Is dual wielding feasible or should I sword and board, can I just rely on Tortles natural armor or are there spells that increase it? An important aspect is we decided that instead of making a pact, my magic would use blood. So I have to collect and store blood and once I run out of blood I am essentially out of magic. My nephew also has a thought for me being able to make weapons out of crystalized blood, which I think is pretty cool lol.
I am new to Warlock and am not sure if being a Tortle changes how I would need to setup a Warlock. I'm not looking to multiclass to try and keep things be a bit simpler. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)
Dual wielding is viable, but only if you take the Pact of the Blade and use light weapons or the Dual Wielder feat. You would lose some damage unless you have at least one fighter level or two ranger levels for Two-Weapon Fighting. As a tortle, you're going to be mostly fine as far as AC goes, but I still recommend taking the shieldspell (which can be used once you know what the attack total is, so you can save your spells if it wouldn't help), available to Warlocks of Hexblades. In a really bad situation, it can save your life by taking you up to AC 22. You could also forgo the second weapon in favor of a shield, which would make the shield/shield combination's AC 24, which is incredibly difficult to hit.
AC 24 sounds awesome thanks. This will be my first Warlock and I want to make sure that my little people enjoy themselves their new to D&D, but there is a lot I don't know myself so I really appreciate you letting me know about that. My nephew that picked Kenku has decided to try out Sorcerer for it, my niece is a Shifter Druid, and my nephew that is DMing the game is a Warforged Fighter.
I'm pretty stoked to try my first Warlock out, I've been wanting to play one for a bit now. So far we're thinking we'll start at level 1 and go all the way to level 20 since the technology will allow for limited space travel, and first contact with aliens lol.
I'm looking over the spell list and it looks like there are some pretty cool options. Definitely going with Shied and Shield spell :)
