First off let me preface this by saying I have a 15 INT and 16 CHA so pretty even. Recently, a story arch happened in our campaign that screams my warlock multiclassing with an Artificer. So narrative wise it makes since. What do you all think about merging the two? I'm a level 4 warlock and was thinking about taking 2 levels in artificer next and then seeing where it goes from there. I'm not looking to be a god in this campaign and deal the most damage. Im looking for good RP. That said, what are some red flags I'm not seeing or pros of doing this?
At a minimum I would go Warlock lvl5 before hitting up Artificer as you get an extra invocation and your spells are now 3rd lvl. Your Eldritch blast is keyed off of your level not your warlock level so you will still get the two beams, so thats ok! The only problem I would see is trying to balance your ability scores, if you want to multiclass try looking for something that bounces off of the charisma same as warlock. But if the story fits and you enjoy it go for it but I would definitely wait until lvl 6 for the multiclass.
Awesome. Thanks Zyonchaos. Yeah I'll wait until level 6 to do this. I'm not huge on the idea of multiclassing artificer, but I do love the class and story wise it makes so much sense.
Basically my character is being trained by a gadgeteer while the rest of the party is off doing some quests. I had a to take a few weeks off and I've learned a bunch from my mentor. I'm thinking with this knowledge mult-classing artificer would be cool, but yeah a tool proficiency could work. Maybe tinkers tools?

What is it story wise that makes sense? Could you talk to the GM and maybe get some training and gain a tool proficiency instead?

I know this is old, but I'm pretty sure a lvl 1 Genie Warlock, lvl 2 artificer. can 1 shot anything short of a god or something that can planar shift.
Can you give more info?!
