I'm starting a new campaign. I previously got a taste of a warlock and I like it...BUT there was one session I rolled ONEs all night. CURSE the fates! I swore my next character would be a halfling, Milo the Magnificent. He will be a Hexblade/pact of the chain, OR if the DM allows it. a Genie lock. I will have 4 levels of sorcerer in there too.
the build will go thusly: first two levels Hexblade, 4 levels sorcerer, and the rest of the campaign as a hexblade.
So the mechanics are there. what I want is the germ of a backstory. Now my Var Human was lost in the woods pursued by goblins. He fell into an open grave and found an ancient sword who bargained with him for his life. a nice dark warlocky background.
with a halfling I am looking for something on a brighter, more positive tone. something that would fit a halfling. But my creative juices are drained at the moment. Milo's personality is a bit rakish...when the party enters a city for down time: he will seek out a halfling quarter (if there is one) and woo the ladies. He is the nicest guy you will ever meet. He just chases skirts.
Can you toss a couple of ideas? I would greatly appreciate it.
I have a simple and very cliche back story. After he successfully woo'd a lady he found a dusty (lamp, ring, or something else) that had a genie trapped in it tossed in a pile and forgotten. He made a deal with the genie, he freed the genie in exchange for the genie becoming his patron.
A friend dared you to jump on the back of a sleeping horse, which turned out to be a pegasus. It flew you to a deserted island and left you there. Having not yet had second breakfast you tied a line to a hook and tried your luck at fishing. Your first catch you bring in a Marvellous Fish-shaped dagger. When you rub it clean you release a Marid who offers you three wishes. You waste the first two on completely stupid and frivolous things but the last wish you wish to become their favourite warlock.

Well I think if you’re going full hobbit, the genie was probably trapped in a kitchen implement, like an old coffee grinder, or an heirloom teapot. The kind of thing that might live in anyone else’s attic forever, but that a halfling would immediately use upon finding.
You always loved visiting your great aunt that lived in a little house of her own just short distance outside the main village's border. While she was very pleasant and personable to be around, she was also a little eccentric, which was probably part of the reason that she distanced herself from the main community. She would share wonderous tales of the places she'd visited during her youth, but she would never comment in any detail about the elegant weapon (hexblade) or fancy container (genie) that sat upon her fireplace mantel. You always wondered about its story, but you never pushed her on the matter...
When one of the prettiest halfling girls in the village started showing interest in you, you decided that you needed to do something to show her how impressive you could be. So you ran to your great aunt's home and, in a flash of youthful excitement, grabbed the ornate heirloom off of the fireplace mantel. As soon as you did, a voice spoke to you that offered you a life filled with fun and excite, adventure and romance... And, having grown up hearing those kinds of stories, you just couldn't so no to the offer.
Depending on what kind of sorcerer you're thinking, Celestial Warlock has a certain halfling-y appeal... it can certainly stray away from the dark warlock vibe.
As a Halfling Warlock, your character would be a small, agile being with a natural inclination towards magic and the arcane. They may have a mischievous or cunning personality, drawn to the power and manipulation offered by their Warlock abilities.
The inclusion of a table lamp as a keyword suggests that this Halfling Warlock may have a particular affinity for objects and artifacts, perhaps even using them as tools or focuses for their magical abilities. They may have a habit of collecting strange or unusual objects, and the table lamp could be one such item that holds a special significance for them.
One possibility is that the table lamp was once a powerful magical artifact, imbued with ancient and mysterious energies. The Halfling Warlock may have discovered or acquired the lamp and become attuned to its power, using it as a conduit for their own magical abilities. Alternatively, the lamp could be a more mundane object that the Halfling Warlock has imbued with their own magical energy, turning it into a focus or channel for their spells and rituals.
In terms of roleplaying, a Halfling Warlock with a table lamp could be a lot of fun to play. They might be resourceful and clever, using their magic and their collection of artifacts to get out of sticky situations. They could also be unpredictable and chaotic, using their magic to play tricks on their friends and enemies alike.
Overall, a Halfling Warlock with a table lamp adds a unique and interesting twist to the character, offering a range of possibilities for roleplaying and storytelling.
You were fishing with your friend, when he found this magic ring. You wanted it so bad and it was your birthday so you decided you deserved it. You are not sure what happened next, all you know is that you have the ring now and your friend hasn't been seen by anyone since. The ring offered you power and you accepted it and now that ring is the most precious thing you own.
If you wanted a Genie warlock the ring could contain one.

PS. all I need is an idea, not a whole back story

OK, there are some VERY rustic halfling origins here! Thanks guys!
