Now, as I understand it, cantrips can't be copied, right? Can I copy a spell over my own spell limit? Or can I save the book for later use? If I copy all the spells, do they add to the amount I can prepare? Or Du I have to change them when I long rest? Copying one spell is 50g plus two hours downtime per level? Unless it's a necromancer spell, it's half rounded up? Can I use the spellbook as a copy, or is it destroyed/otherwise useless to me, because I didn't write it? Is it required in AL to have the dm present when copying a spellbook or is a saving throw only done when scribing scrolls?
Now, as I understand it, cantrips can't be copied, right?
Right.
Can I copy a spell over my own spell limit?
You can't copy a spell of a level you can't prepare. I say prepare instead of cast because there's a difference if you have non-warlock spell slots from multiple classes.
Or can I save the book for later use?
You can save it to copy/sell/trade/use as fuel later.
If I copy all the spells, do they add to the amount I can prepare?
They do not.
Or Du I have to change them when I long rest?
They are added to your spellbook, from which you can prepare them as you would any other spells in your spellbook, following the same restrictions.
Copying one spell is 50g plus two hours downtime per level?
Right. A number of hours equal to twice the spell's level and an amount of gold equal to 50 times the spell's level.
Unless it's a necromancer spell, it's half rounded up?
Not rounded, because there's no need to round; 2/2=1 and 50/2=25.
Can I use the spellbook as a copy, or is it destroyed/otherwise useless to me, because I didn't write it?
You can't use it as a backup spellbook (because you didn't write it), but it's not destroyed. If you lose your spellbook but still have it, though, you can recopy spells from it into your new spellbook.
Is it required in AL to have the dm present when copying a spellbook or is a saving throw only done when scribing scrolls?
No saving throw necessary, so you shouldn't need DM supervision, but I don't know all that much about AL.

For AL you have to have the changes and everything noted on the tracking sheets.
This gets really important if you switch hit in AL, DM'ing for a season then playing next season as your DM rewards can be applied to your character and have to be noted.

To clarify point number 2, wizard prepare spells for anything they spell slots for (Excluding lock spells, I'd assume but it doesn't explicitly say that. Merely what you have slots for) and because multiclassing would give you the multiclass board, saying spell slots from other classes wouldn't exactly be relevant, I'd suppose. Otherwise, this is all spot on advice.

Hi everyone.
Could someone please dumb down how to copy spells for me? I'm a level 3 necromancer and I found a spellbook on my last adventure containing :
Cantrips: mage hand, light, message
1st level: detect magic, feather fall, jump, shield, sleep
2nd level: detect thoughts, locate object, rope trick
3rd level: animate dead, lightning bolt

Damn! Should have rolled a Barbarian instead!;)
