Absorb Elements (My Own?)

Would you allow a player to use their reaction to cast Absorb Elements to lessen the impact of a spell they cast themselves on the same turn?  For instance, if I wanted to cast Fireball (using an action) where I am standing, could I use Absorb Elements (reaction) on the same turn?  Asking for a fire resistant tiefling abjurer with an arcane ward and vampiric touch for a follow up melee attack. 

No. Both are leveled spells, and you can only cast one spell with a spell slot per turn. 

Now if one came from some kind of item, for example, a necklace of fireballs, so it wasn’t using a slot, then I’d allow it.

So I guess its ok to cast two leveled spells in the same round (as long as one is a reaction) just not two leveled spells on your turn specifically.

Was this actually allowed in the 2014 rules?

Right, this was allowed in 2014 but not in 2024.

But, if you're an evoker at level 6 or higher in 2024 (lev 2 in 2014), you can protect yourself from your own fireballs.
