I was reading last night, really reading. Tell me if I read this right.
"You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of wizard spells requires time spent studying your spellbook and memorizing the incantations and gestures you must make to cast the spell: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list."
PHB p.114
Nowhere do I find that a wizard is required to prepare his daily spells if he/she is NOT changing any of them. Is this right? If a wizard does not change their list of prepared spells, then are to be considered as already prepared until a change of the list after a long rest? Also this brings up interesting possibilities. The wizard could cast a spell or two. Then they could use their Arcane Recovery to get that spell slot back, and THEN change their list by preparing a new list if they feel that a different spell might be needed in a short while.

Yes, your prepared spells remain prepared until you change them. You may change them when you finish a long rest, although you are not required to change them. The Arcane Recovery trick does not work, because you can't change your prepared spells after a short rest, only after a long rest.
I agree. To go further, though, the whole "1 minute per spell level" is just flavor, as far as I'm concerned.
So, then, the "changing prepared spells after a long rest" is how the mechanic works.
Doesn't really need to be flavour. Of the 8 hours a long rest takes, only 6 is spent sleeping. The other 2 hours you are awake and doing the basic things like spell preparation, dressing, etc. Spell prep is max 50 minutes (maxed Int score 30 (highest you can get in 5th ed) and max spell level 20) so your char has plenty of time to prep during the long rest and you don't need to DM-Handwaive it as "just flavour" either.

So you can only change your prepared spell IMMEDIATELY after a long rest. Got it. Thanks for that.
Thank you.

Accept that it has to be done afterwards or else this would be a great way to do it. "I'm on watch!" "He's always on watch."
Thank you.
