In my current campighns I am a bladesinging wizard and I'd like to get more out of my melee hits. Would fighter be a good choice or should I take a diff class?
If your an elven bladesinger and enjoying it, keep on blade singing and work out how to increase your might with bladesinging options.
If your not enjoying it at all then try something else when you can :)
If you want advice on what class maximises damage in melee and what abilities to combine to make your character a monster, please keep in mind thats bad for table play if the group doesnt support that - one overperformer that is compensated for by the DM increasing the 'challenge' can mean tougher monsters that make other players more vulnerable to death and less able to enjoy themselves when the swords and spells come out. If your table does support that and still want advice, boy there is a whole load of options, many forum posts suggest paths to optimise or maximise your character.
Had a similar question. Fighter adds some extra martial prowess to Bladesinger but what about Rogue? Cunning action seems like a good mix with Bladesong
I've played a bladesinger/fighter twice. The first time I only went to 3rd level fighter to get Eldritch Knight. The 2nd time I went to 7th level fighter (Eldritch Knight) to get the ability to perform a melee attack as a bonus action. The 2 class, done that way have great synergy.
I am currently playing a Wiazard 2 (War Mage) / Fighter 2) I plan to go to L7 as fighter, then back to wizard for as far as we go after that.

Watch your back, conserve your ammo, and NEVER cut a deal with a dragon!
Stick with bladesinger and Shadow Blade, grab Elven Accuracy and stick to dim light or use your familiar for advantage for one hit. Upcasting it, you'll be doing some pretty serious damage with shadow blade without having to multiclass.

Rogue would be my suggestion, possibly paladin if you have obscene stats.
I'm mixing arcane trickster and bladesinger and having a grand time. Highly recommended.
Keep going with wizard and get shadow blade spell. Up cast it. Your damage scales up pretty good with your extra attack.
