link here is for a 11 part series I did on playing Wizard/necromancers in different ways, I've posted the last part and there are links to all the others there.
It depends largely one what you want to do? DO you want to be the stereotype Undead summoner? do you want to focus on using necrotic damage dealing spells? be a bit of a jack of all trades?
i broke down the type into the following:
part 1: Pseudo rant on animating undead
part 2: Necromancers specialising in curses
part 3: Necromancers trying to create life, think Dr Frankenstein
part 4: 2 types of damaging specialist Necromancer, the Blighter and the Plague Rat
part 5:Is about a more Victorian style spiritualist or Clairvoyant
part 6: is a more Goodly Undead hunting style of Necromancer
part 7: is those that combine some level of music/singing background with Necromancy
part 8: looks at playing them as those that want to study death out of morbid curiosity
part 9: loks at they type that seek to become undead themselves
part 10: looks at Necromancers that specialise with Fear
and the final part 11 deals with Necromancers that are fan boysgirls of undead
