Death Domain Clerics were originally meant to be an evil player subclass option. I'd like to ask y'all what you think about playing a good Death Domain Cleric? Can you do it? What would it look like? Would you allow it as a DM? What god would a good Death Cleric serve?
I personally think it's possible but I would like to get other folks opinions.
True. The Grave Domain is definitely made for that. But if one was to play a good Death Domain Cleric how would they go about it? I would like to see if any of y'all can come up with a way to justify it without just playing the Grave Domain.
Not that I have anything against the Grave Clerics. They're cool.
Whether you are good or bad is flavor and that is free. Of course you can play a good Death Cleric. Jergal is certainly a non infinite evil death deity. So what makes it different than Grave and couldn't you play Grave. Of course you could. Its the powers that define it. So a Death deity could just as easily grant Death or Grave powers. Perhaps your cleric is needed by his god to be more of an offensive tool then Death might be the more appropriate set of powers.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
The Death Domain is for evil clerics, but if your DM makes abstraction of that, or use Grave Domain, there could easily be good clerics of Kelemvor, Jergal or The Raven Queen for example.
Most of them are neutral or evil. I can't think of any good ones off the top of my head. Wee Jas from Greyhawk and Kelemvor from Forgotten Realms are both LN IIRC.

That's arguably what the Grave Domain is for.

Wait a minute, aren't there good gods and godesses with the death domain?

I love paleontology, and I hope to become a paleontologist in the future.
Sadly, I am not a dinosaur, nor is my name really Gregory.
I am a little crazy. I eat pineapple on pizza, and I enjoy it! 🍍🍕 PM the word Avocado
