Switched phones, but haven't yet found a way to move the original Beyond app to my new phone (so far the only way is to move ALL of my old phone's apps, and I do not want to do that). And it's nowhere to be found in the Google Play store.
I guess this is just an old-man-shakes-fist-at-clouds instance, but I got very accustomed to the old app, which basically let me navigate the Beyond website on my phone. Didn't have to download books. If I was idly wondering what some spell did at work and had wifi or phone signal, I could simply look it up as if I was on the website--through the normal pulldown menus at the top.
Those menus do not appear even when I use my phone's Chrome to go to the site. It was just...effortless. Sure, it was annoying that it reset the page when you accidentally rotated your phone. But still. Oh well, I guess.
Now, if I want to browse Beyond content on my phone, I've gotta clutter up my phone's storage with all the books I own. Swell.
The old app does require you to download the books. I still have the old Beyond reader app on my phone and it is taking up several GB of space since I downloaded everything.

The app you are describing was never an official DDB app. There was at least one official-looking but not official app that was essentially "wrapper" app: that is a browser app that only went to the DDB site. What you are describing was consistent with that. It was removed from the app stores is appeared in long before the second incarnation of the official app, probably because of licensing issues, although I don't know for certain.
You should be able to do what you want through the browser on your smartphone, unless I'm missing something.
Oh, that's true; I do recall it being something like that.
But, truly, I'd happily browse the website on my Samsung Galaxy phone. But the pulldowns just do not exist. Even when I tell my phone to display it as a desktop site. As I said: Oh well.
Just keep waiting for more improvements to the official app. It's coming along well!
Interesting. The website works just fine for me in a browser (Safari) on my iPhone. When you say “the pull downs just do not exist,” can you provide some specific examples?

are you using the default browser from your phone? try downloading Chrome, Firefox, or even Dolphin to see if they give you more functionality. Using Chrome on my Samsung works fine for the website.

It's just set up differently on mobile. It's in the corner.

So. Yeah. Super genius that I am: I had not logged in. Once I did, I now can see the three-lines-icon to access all the menus.
Thank you all for bearing with my thick-headedness!
