Almost no one reads the reference books, print or electronic, cover to cover.
I can't speak for everyone, but I almost exclusively use D&D Beyond for looking up random things that I forgot or need to learn on the fly.
The search functionality is a bit better on the website, but I still find myself often waiting for huge pages to load up ('hey I see you searched for druid, so here's a page with ALL OF THE CLASSES EVAR!!! for you to spend 3 minutes downloading over a shitty 4G connection.')
Seems like you should use google instead...........
Isn't one of the purposes of DDB to help expedite the experience of D&D, including helping to look up rules on the fly? A little silly to say to use Google instead, when the purpose of DDB is to replace the need for the books. It's search functionality needs to be massively improved. The number of times I've tried to look up rules for grappling, or jumping, and I haven't put the exact right wording in to pull up the result, and instead get a ton of forum threads is just silly.

My comment was a half satirical and half real lol in the sense that currently, a google search is better than DDB's app, when that shouldn't be the case.
I think your issue with the app has more to do with the fact that the rules reference feature (e.g., website functionality) hasn't been added to the beta yet. The beta is pretty clearly advertised as an 'e-reader' with more functionality coming. Also, my understanding is that upgrading the search functionality on the app is one of the improvements they are working on.
So that's just a beta being a beta.
As for the main site search functionality-- I find it to be pretty excellent. Searching for druid, for example, lists a bunch of very druid relevant results with the options to filter as needed. But YMMV I suppose.
Beta software is feature complete. If it's missing core features then it should be an alpha.
Perhaps. Not enough of a software dude to get into a debate about naming conventions. But it's pre release software that has exactly the features they said it would have at this stage. And they explicitly said that at first it would lack the rules reference features that you are discussing. They've also made it clear that they are going to add the features you want later in the development process.
So perhaps it's mislabeled? But it's still pre release software being exactly what they said it would be.

I don't even use the app anymore since the search is such trash like this, I tend to used DDB via browser instead.
I'd love for this to be fixed to return actual usable results.
