So I'm not active on these forums too often, but when I check in, I often find a lot of thread necromancy, where people raise a long-dead thread way after it's helpful. I know the mods usually lock zombie threads anyway, so I just thought it might be cool to have an auto-lock feature when nobody's posted for six months. Of course it's probably more trouble than it's worth to develop, but it would definitely help folks like me who take time trying to be helpful only to realize the original post is a year old and someone just brought it back. I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case.
While I do not generally post much, I do lurk the forums a lot and read up on the lastest news and posts. While necromancy is not a huge deal, it is a mild annoyance that costs me about a minute or two each day. If you add up all those wasted minutes over a month and over multiple accounts, that is a lot of wasted minutes.
I also agree that it would be nice to implement some sort of posting restrictions on old threads, such as only allowing posting on old threads if the account is older than a month and if the account has already made at least 10-20 posts.
I also agree that having an indicator or a pop up notification that people have to confirm before being allowed to post on old threads would be nice too. When combined with the measure above, this would tell new accounts that necromancy is discouraged and prevent most threads from being pointlessly resurrected, while still allowing normal accounts to post updates as necessary and be reminded that the thread is old. And if the thread is worthy of being resurrected, the indicator/pop notification could be disabled after 5-10 new posts have been made.
And I also just dealt with a necromancer that asked a question that was already answered in the thread (the thread only had 7 comments). Maybe that pop up should also remind them to read the thread they are commenting in first (you'd think that would be common sense, but that necro was far from the first time I've seen it).

There are often times when new information has become available, where it's actually useful to post in a thread that has been dormant for a while.
We'd rather leave it up to people to be sensible. 😊

Could there at least be an indicator on old threads (maybe something that has to be acknowledged) that reminds the poster of the rules before posting?
A lot of threads get necro'd by new accounts that don't read the guidelines, and occasionally by people who just didn't notice the age.
