Hi, ive been using dnd beyond for a long time now and in that time ive tried to make many homebrew items and 1 problem i keep getting is that i cant change the damage die for the weapon i base my item off.
So im now asking the dev team if it would be posible to make it so you can change the damage die of a weapon your baseing a homebrew item of like for example i want to make a homebrew bow and i want it to be a 1d12 damage die, i cant because the longbow im basing it of is set at a 1d8 damage die.
I hope the moderators will see this and push along to the dev team and i hope that the dev team might use this sugestion to enhance the veriety of homebrew items in the future.
The short version is that you can't - the tools currently don't allow it. I'm fairly sure you are able to create a Homebrew Magic Item, base it off the Longbow and change the Damage Die (though I'm guessing you've already figured that out!)
Someone made another similar post about changing weapon properties (link below for you) - basically I think the 'weapon customisation' is on the road map, however the weapon customisation is off the table currently because 1). Weapon Balancing 2). DND Beyond have to follow the 'Official' rules for weapons set out by Wizards and have thus only allowed the standard weapons available with the exception of 'Official' magic weapons. That said, there have been plenty of requests to see this changed so I believe it's on the road map :)

There is plans to allow this in the future. The homebrew tools need an overhaul and it will be a while before they get to it (one big project at a time).

What you could do is instead add an additional 1d4 damage, it’s slightly better than a flat 1d12, but it’s closish.
